My favourite is Alien.. Probably because of the sheer unexpectedness of the whole story. I love Aliens too - but by then, I knew what to expect, so not so much horror for me, but great action.

Worst of ths series... turned it into a kid/family action movie series... it has never fully recovered although Alien 3, Prometheus and Covenant have all tried to correct this mistake...

But its tough, as Aliens created an mass audience of action fans who see the Alien movies as such...

Still trolling with this shit, huh? lol youre so weird.

I'm currently rewatching the quadrilogy followed by Prometheus.
Yes in some ways this is my favourite, especially the Directors cut.

ALIENS is my favorite of the series, followed closely by the first one. Cameron’s take here was not only perfect, but genius. He stayed true to the rules laid down in the first film, then logically expanded the story. If one was scary, imagine what hundreds/thousands will be like? Cameron also played (and preyed) on the audience having that knowledge — then gave us characters who didn’t take the threat seriously. That ramped up the dread and fear tenfold. Great, great movie.

Great point.

Cameron made a virtue of making a sequel. This was no pale retread of the original. This built upon the brilliance of Alien by using our knowledge of the xenomorph and then playing on our dread, and thus our fear for a bunch of characters who, Ripley aside, did not, as you say, take the alien threat seriously.

Yes!

My favourite Alien film, my favourite film of 1986, one of my top ten, maybe top five, films of the 1980s, and my second favourite action film after Die Hard.

An absolute classic, both in standard and extended edition format.

I look at Alien and Aliens as two very different movies within the same universe, both 10/10 in what they attempted to achieve. Which I find my "favorite" depends on what type of film I'm in the mood to see. If I were forced to break the tie and choose which is the "better" movie, I'd have to pick Alien because it was the trailblazer. Aliens would not have existed without it, so the first movie gets the extra bump for its novelty. For the same reason I'd rate the first Terminator, Superman, and Star Wars IV as the best of their series (though Superman II doesn't quite measure up to these other sequels). Other franchises, like the Star Trek films, are often a different story because the first of the series stumbles for one reason or another.

No, I only really like the first. There's more mystery and suspense. Its simplicity also works better. This one has too much sci-fi and action that doesn't appeal to me. Also, I hate it when they feel the need to add an annoying kid.

Totally agree.
