Why didn't Bronson just shoot Tony Boyle?

I know this was supposed to be a true story, but you know Bronson was itching to change the screenplay around so he could shoot Boyle in his big fat belly with a shotgun.

I read a book about this incident, and apparently Yoblonsky had borrowed a firearm or two, knowing that something like this would happen.
Sadly, he was simply caught too off-guard to be able to use the weapon(s).
American Rifleman magazine has a monthly section called The Armed Citizen which features stories of people defending themselves successfully with firearms.
