There is a web site with information about the characters and shop. It has a picture of the exterior of the shop converted to a wine bar.

Thank you so much for this link. I had no idea that this story was based on real people. I only bought this movie on DVD to test my newly converted DVD player to ‘all region’ status and it turned out to be one of my best ones.

You should so pick up Helene Hanff's books - they read as beautifully as this movie flowed.
