I Just Discovered 'The Duchess Of Bloomsbury Street'

My God, being such a fan of '84, Charing Cross Road'- both the film and the book, I felt like an idiot when a friend mentioned 'The Duchess Of Bloomsbury Street' to me; I had no idea Helene Hanff wrote it! I had vaguely heard the title once or twice, but never associated it with Helene.

I read it, and read it again. LOVED this 'travel journal'. Like '84', this book is one I can read time and time again and never tire of it. God, how I wish I could have met this extraordinary woman. She really is a brilliant writer who is a kindred soul. She writes how I feel - deep inside.

If you by chance have not read this - buy it!

I'll have to check that out as well. I feel that same way about some of Larry McMurtry's work. Would you say that these books give a certain insight into the psyche of a woman? I've been looking lately for books that women say are insightful into a woman's soul. I've read a good deal of the most highly regarded "romantic" novels, and things like My Secret Garden by Nancy Friday. Now I'd like to read some books that are Pulitzer worthy, insightful novels. Any suggestions?

Read everything by Jane Austen, and you'll be set. :)

Try _Q's Legacy_ and _Letter from New York_ too. The latter is a collection of transcripts of segments she did for BBC Women's Hour.
