It Breaks My Heart......

When Frank visits the old man in the hospital, George Martin (his staff member, played by Denholm Elliott). I guess I am very touched by this scene simply because my own mother has gotten on in years, and I hate to see any old person alone, sick and in the hospital, as the character of George Martin was.

Correction: The part of George Martin was played by Maurice Denham. And, he played Judi Dench's father 22 years prior in the 1966 teleplay "Ranking TO A Stanger". It's wonderful, and I highly recommend it if you haven't seen it.

That was one of my favorite scenes in the movie because of the very awkwardness of the two men, esp. Doel, expressing emotion to each other and yet the depth of their fondness was still apparent.

It is a touching scene. I feel that he had a happy life though, he obviously loved books, and loved his job, and he was able to go on doing work he loved up until almost the end of his life. And at least he had people who cared enough to visit him, which some people don't. his colleagues were his friends, and I expect many of the customers will have missed him too.
