the hit

Obviously I'm missing something here, but I really can't make sense of the scene where the black guy (Bobby) sneaks into Scheider's house to whack him. I mean, in the previous scene this Alan character tells his two partners in crime a lie that Scheider has no money on him and pretty much instructs Bobby to go and kill the guy so there would be no loose ends. However, he does this 'before' Scheider pays him those 52 000 he's actually good for, so had the hit been successful, he wouldn't have gotten anything - unless Scheider made a will according to which he inherits that money lol. So what's the score here? What's the point? Did Bobby get carried away and went to perform the hit ahead of time?

Yes, Bobby gets 'carried away': Alan tells him to hit Mitch in a couple of weeks, but Bobby goes straight over to Mitch's place to eliminate their 'problem' asap.
