I can tell you as much as that the music is by Gabriel Yared. The whole CD is wonderful.

Aah brilliant I loved Garbiel Yared. His soundtrack for The English Patient is one of my favourites. I'll have to get this one. The main theme played throughout is so beautiful and sadly nostalgic.

In the shape of a girl

yes I have this soundtrack as well. I had to order it online. I know that piano solo is on there, so all you have to do is find the soundtrack

This is my favorite soundtrack of all time, and nothing else I've ever heard approaches its impact.

I'm curious whether any of Yared's other works come close to the greatness of this album, including its variety.

reply

I must've bought this soundtrack about a dozen times. I first heard it in 88 being played in every bar in Glasgow and got it myself only to keep losing it whenever I moved flat or changed bars. I still have the most recent one and it is still essential listening for those balmy summer afternoons lying in the sun.

I love the piano music in this film, what's the rest of the CD like is it mostly piano music or a mixture of styles?

reply

It's various styles, but there are two or three variations on the piano piece.... worth getting.

At least here in Denmark the LP version is fairly common and usually doesn't sell for more than the regular "cheap" prices in thrift stores and 2nd hand stores that knows nothing of value of records (I think record stores that are familiar with 'correct' pricing would charge basically the same, though). I don't know if this helps any. It was released on Virgin. If you'd like, I can see if I can find a copy for you and ship it to you (although I don't think it's really worth it)...
