Gut Wrenching Scream *** SPOILERS***

The first time I watched this movie I held up ok. There were a number of scenes that got the waterworks going but the one that burst the dam has to be that last scene in the hallway, when Bancroft is banging on the door and screams out "JESSE PLEEEEASE!" followed by the gun shot.

Days later I could hear that scream echo in my head and the waterworks started. I stopped discussing the movie with friends because it would replay in the back of my head and I started choking up.

Of all the movies I've ever seen, no single moment has ever produced such emotional intensity as this one. No other scene has ever transported me into the character to where I could feel the desperation and fear that Thelma was ... and I'm a guy.

It's amazing how some directors can spend millions on a production but are not able to convey the deep emotion as two characters on a simple set with no music score.

Exactly, same here. Right down to everything except for that I'm a girl.

It's an incredibly haunting moment, to say the least.

@emileemarie - I just let my neighbor borrow the DVD last week and she said it was the most disturbing movie she ever loved. We both agreed that the director did an excellent job at taking the viewer on a roller coaster of emotions with that last scene being the final plunge.

"I had a dream my flour sack was abducted and the kidnappers started sending me muffins in the mail."

I hear what you are saying, I never cry in films but that last scene was so ridiculously tense and nerve wracking. You didn't know what was going to happen, and you still had some hope that she wasn't going to go through with it. Her mother crying and screaming at the door unable to get to her daughter made me think of myself being in that situation and how scary and devastating that would be.
