Respect for The Wizard

The Wizard has meant so much to so many people over the past 21 years. It has certainly meant a great deal to me. So much so that I could not sit idly by & allow the original recordings to sit in the Fox vaults without video release or rebroadcast any longer.

In my enthusiasm to have the show released, I posted a new thread & have replied to a couple of other threads to let everyone know that it is possible to make this dream a reality. My apologies if anyone, including IMDB, considered this spaming. That was not the intention. I have personally deleted the 2 posts I had left in the last month. The thread I started had to be deleted by IMDB due to a response that was against the rules. A shame, too, because there was an initial, very lovely response from a fan that was also deleted in the process. Still, it's better that the thread is gone than to have left it the way it was.

Everyone from The Wizard now involved in the official website, are so pleased to read your messages about wanting to see the show again. Also your memories. Message all over the internet. For them, it isn't about money, it's about love & respect. Exactly the message Simon conveyed over & over again throughout the show. They didn't just film it - they still believe in it.

In fact, your messages are inspiring them into action with Fox. Every message, every vote wherever it may be, every positive effort is letting them know how much this show means to each of you. A show that also means a great deal to each of them.

This isn't about me or a petition or any other fan. This is all about The Wizard. A show that was there to inspire so many of us. Now The Wizard needs us to have the chance to inspire & reinspire once again.

(How is a petition on a globally known website that is open to everyone from around the world to sign whether they have seen the show or not "private"?)

Actually there are many other ideas already in place & more on the way. Ideas from all kinds of different people, including Frankie Leigh & Michael Berk. They all involve the creators from the show & David's family. These people are firmly behind all efforts made through the fansite. They would also be behind the positive & pro-active efforts of others, if anyone chooses to put their plans into action instead of depending solely on the fansite & sending wishes of luck.

The fansite is my contribution, so it makes no sense for me to not speak of it.

Just know that your messages across the internet over the years will not go unheard by Fox. Not even those message left by fans in France, South America, Poland, etc. They will get the messages. And you can thank Michael Berk for that.

We also have The Starlight Foundation back on board, which should be a win-win situation for foundation & show.

It is sad that some fans are so un-willing to show enough respect for the show to even go ahead with their own ideas for a campaign. Instead, they hound me to do it & then call me a publicity hound when they can't have their way. I've discovered that it mainly has to do with fans here & there who want to come before the show. No wonder it's already taken 20 years to get the job done.

David Rappaport first, The Wizard second, the fans third. That's how it works, kidz. Even me. I'm still just a fan.

The only profit for me is in finding such wonderful friends in the creators, cast & crew, David's friends & family, & fans from all over, even if I never ever get to meet them in person. The show is definitely worth the time, effort, money, heart & soul donated to it. Anyone who takes a look at the site can figure it out. Yeah, this is my gang, my associates, & I'm proud to be amongst them.

Is there any monetary profit for me? No, unless massive amounts of debt are now considered monetary profit.

Michael Berk gets all the credit for taking this whole campaign even farther than the fans could hope in a much quicker amount of time. He believes in the fans & he believes in the fansite. It is his memorabilia that made the fansite the Official Cyberhome of The Wizard.

The site belongs to the show & all those in it.

Have an idea for the campaign? Get out there & do it yourself. Start it, keep it up, tell us what you're doing & why. If anyone else wishes to join in, then they can decide that for themselves. That's how it works with the petition on the fansite. Don't want to add your name, then don't. Anyone else who wanted to start a very public petition can do so without asking me for permission. Just stop waiting for me to do this all by myself or it will take another 20 years to get it done.

The choice to join in someone else's idea of a great campaign solution for the show is up to chooser & them alone. But I strongly suggest being careful about inviting them to join in your ideas rather than strong arm or bullying tactics. I can't speak for everyone else, but bullying, strong-arming & threats of violence against myself, the fansite or anyone else - fan or member of the show - will definitely make me not want to join in, or even listen.

Sorry to everyone else, but this response is for the responder:

You asked for your original post in the Memory Page from July, 2007 to be removed in November, 2007 because you couldn't keep filling up the Memory Page with it over & over. In internet jargon this is known as spamming. I was going to leave the original post, but you demanded it's removal with a threat of legal action. Now, you just posted it again in this thread. Everyone in here gets to read it & decide if they want to try your ideas. Why would you need to keep posting it again? Even I cleaned up this message board to cut down on any unintentional spamming on my part.

And if you think it's such a fabulous idea, why aren't you out there putting your ideas into action yourself? If you are, then why aren't to talking about that instead of attacking me, the fansite & other fans? Sounds like you don't believe in your own ideas very much.

The fansite is a global version of these 'local' ideas & has been around since October, 2006. Personally, I was turned off of this suggestion when it was presented as something I alone should be putting into practice even though the person making the suggestions felt it was all impossible & not really worth the effort they were putting into writing the post.

Yeah, that'll get the show released real quick. Why would I be excited to get involved in that?

It has always been clearly stated on the fansite that the Guestbook/Memory Page was available for fans of today to share memories with each other & those involved with the show. That is all. It was never meant as a place where one person could add message after message after message about what they expected everyone else to do to earn release of the show or to post personal information to slander someone else who wouldn't give them their way. Yes, sorry to say, but you're not #1 in that, either.

It was also made quite clear on the Wizard on DVD page that any ideas for furthering the campaign were to be sent to me directly. As no one has wanted to do more than perhaps add their name to the petition &/or send wishes of luck, except for very few including the person whom you are trying to slander once again without naming this time, there was no reason to start a guestbook for such messages. Nope, won't start one just for you.

If anyone else thought your ideas were something they wanted to try & have had any success with, I have never received word. For all of your posts, I've never read one word about your work with your own ideas. Maybe someone in here will decide to try. Will you?

In November I had a very nasty flu & did not respond to your Memory Page barrage (in internet terms it's called spamming) in a direct or calm manner, which I should have from the very first. I shouldn't have to do this with anyone, especially not someone claiming to be a Wizard fan. And I have saved all the posts & my responses. The messages - all of them - have been sent to Michael Berk, Douglas Schwartz, Frankie Leigh, the rest of David's family & Nabil Shaban with my apologies for not being in the best shape to handle the situation from the beginning. They approved of the final solution to the situation.

If it makes you feel any better (though it really shouldn't), they know all about you from your own words. The Memory Page messages, the messages deleted by IMDB the one this morning & this one from tonight. They know all about my work on the fansite & are welcome to join Simon's Workshop should they ever want to lurk anonymously & check up on the fans in there.

I also apologized to anyone reading the guestbook during early November in the newsletter directly following my necessary decision to take the Guestbook/Memory Page back to it's original purpose of Wizard, cast & crew memories for the fans, & to not allow any other messages. I know for a fact that you've visited that newsletter page on more than one occasion. Anyone can read it.

My true nature is David 1st, the show 2nd, the fans 3rd. Any fan who can't bear to be less than #1 or is waiting for me to approve of their campaign ideas before putting them into action might want to stop being involved in the site. The choice belongs to each person. No one is banned. There is no 'clique' here. But I will take steps to protect the private contact information of people leaving messages on the Memory Page or signing the Petition. 207 people on the Petition List & 20 people on the Memory Page have no problem with this whatsoever. Neither do those associated with the show listed above. Only fans who want to put themselves before all else seem to have a problem with it.

While I speak of The Wizard, those in it & legitimate release to DVD, you can only focus on me & yourself. I wouldn't have any personal publicity at all if it weren't for you. Please feel free to find something else better to do with your time & energy.

A true warrior is Nabil Shaban & I'm proud to call him friend & hero.

i don't care about who is being profited and who's not. i just want to watch the show again (as long as it's nothing illegal)

reply

Actually, fans of any show should worry about who is profiting from from these sales. That's exactly what I mean about respect.

It may not be illegal to trade these copies, which it isn't. I'm pretty sure 20th Century Fox could sue the life's blood out of anyone who is selling them for profit. After all the goings on with music downloads, I think they could also at least try to sue anyone who buys the copies sold for personal profit if they find them. Anybody can file a lawsuit. It would certainly hurt the fans more than the studio.

But everyone must ask themselves how moral it is. If this show really means this much to you, then why not do whatever you can to fight for it's release - whether through your own idea for the campaign, voting via tvshowsondvd, signing the petition on the fansite, etc. - instead of disrespecting The Wizard by just nabbing crummy copies for yourself & going home.

Should you get your fix on YouTube or find someone to trade or gift you copies (or are even daft enough to give someone else tons of money for it), I hope you will also think of what Simon would do if it was your show & he was so inspired by you. Would he leave your show sitting in a vault to rot, or would he fight for you?

You should care if you truly love the show that much. We should all care. I don't understand how people who swear to love the show so much can not care. I can understand Fox not understanding because they see the show through the eyes of profit, but in this day & age of High Definition Video, it makes no sense for the fans to cheer on how much they loved the special effects & how much Simon meant to them & then sit idly by & not demand the show's release in Hi-Def.

Yes, you should absolutely care. Each of us should care beyond seeking The Wizard for our own collections & think about the people all over the world who will never get the chance to see the show ever again or even once because of our selfish desperation to see it again. The desperation is understandable, but the campaign has come much too far to pretend that there is nothing else.

If Michael Berk, Douglas Schwartz & the family & friends of David Rappaport think enough of the rest of us to be inspired to fight along with us at a point when they are not guaranteed a monetary profit for their own work on the show, then the least we, the fans, can do is have enough respect for The Wizard to return the favor.

Is that really too much to ask?

What I would expect Simon to do is to jump right in & start helping - working on his own ideas & initiative - without asking others for permission to get started or waiting for others to do his work for him. So that is what I do. Just because you are not personally involved & your permission is not sought for every action in this campaign doesn't mean that nothing else is happening.

Are you going to start expecting Michael Berk & Douglas Schwartz to ask for your permission before they approach Fox to open talks about the show?

From all your messages, I get the feeling you don't even consider their involvement to be of any importance whatsoever.

For someone who doesn't want to be involved, you certainly are involved. For someone who likes to "lurk in the shadows" & doesn't want the spotlight, you certainly make a very, very public spectacle of yourself. I talk about The Wizard & sign my name because I'm proud to be personally involved in working for the show. All you can talk about is yourself, me & Viv. It's a shame because there is so much going on around you that you just don't even pay attention to.

Viv has not been focusing on you, but rather focusing on the campaign & using her own initiative to get the word out & help get the show legitimately released. She is one of the fans Helping the most. Also the very first to voluntarily sign the Very Public & Global Petition. And make sure that the fanzine she co-wrote is available for the $5 it cost to print & bind instead of the $16 plus shipping opening bid we found a copy on Ebay for. Anyone who checks out the SW Fanzine 2002 page on the fansite can read it for themselves. Also, anyone who wants a copy must get it directly from the authors. It is not sold directly through the fansite.

I hope Viv decides to not report you for trying to slander her once again because all your doing is getting people to visit the fansite or join Simon's Workshop just to find out that they can't get the show in those places, but rather are encouraged to start their own campaign, vote on tvshowsondvd, sign the Very Public Global petition, or, better still, all three.

You are turning out to be the best advertisement The Wizard never wanted.

What a shame that you didn't read the only other response to your slanderous accusations. FunkyHomoSapien went to all the trouble of proving to you that, unfortunately, the majority of fans in "the already established fanbase"- even the thousands upon thousands around the world - want the show on DVD so badly that they don't care who they get it from or who is selling for profit.

You just have absolutely, positively no clue about The Wizard fanbase, do you? The "already established fanbase" is everywhere - all over the world. They are leaving messages all over the internet in the US & in their own countries talking about the show & demanding to see it again. They are everywhere.

Nope, sorry 'bout your luck, but what I 'claim' & what I do are the exact same thing. Please go find something else better to do with your time & energy because the rest of us are busy fighting for The Wizard & bridging the chasm between the show & the fans. You can't be #1 no matter how much you try.

And when have you ever tried to help?

Bossing & helping are two completely different things. Telling me & others what to do while you have no intention of doing anything yourself (& don't even believe in it) is Bossing People Around. Taking the initiative to put your own plans into action & then telling other people about it later & inviting them to join you is Helping. Right from the start you have gone for the Bossing angle & that just turned me off right there. You flat out said you didn't believe it could ever work. This show needs believers - no matter how long it takes.

Besides, I'm busy taking care of "the already established fanbase" you so readily ignore. The fans all around the globe. If you really cared about the show you'd take a look around & see what's really going on out there.

Of course I was happy to remove your original post when you demanded it, but turning back now & accusing me of "hiding" it makes me wonder what your real motive is. And accusing me of ignoring your "nice" (?) request when your original post wasn't removed in the 30 seconds you thought it should be because I wasn't glued to the Memory Page right at the second you sent it also makes me wonder about your true motives.

Trolling: Posting derogatory messages about sensitive subjects on newsgroups and chat rooms to bait users into responding.

Following me around the IMDB message boards to respond to every single post I make just to keep yourself #1 & my name (which isn't even my real name, duh!!) in the spotlight might also be considered trolling. At the very least, I can't help but wonder why you focus on me so much. Everyone else is focused on The Wizard.

Please note that the original message in this thread never, ever asked for a response - you volunteered. And the Guestbook on the fansite only ever asked for show memories on a voluntary basis. You couldn't even do that.

You might want to go back & notice that I never, ever said mention you specifically in the newsletter. Your actions are not the only reason for having to make certain very sad & unnecessary changes to the site. But nice job in accusing yourself!! Now everyone will think you are. Good Job!!!

Believe it or not, I never once complained to IMDB about you. Other people have been more than offended by your posts on this & other message boards to jump right in & complain. I'm amazed more don't complain about your constant use of All Caps, which is supposed to be a big no-no in the IMDB rule book.

If you really cared about anything beyond yourself you'd stop waiting for me to give you the green light & put your own ideas into action. Ideas you obviously don't think are any good for a campaign & a show you obviously don't believe in or have any faith in.

Please find something else better to do with your time. I hear there's an opening for Paint Drying Inspectors in your area. Sounds a lot more exciting than following me around & being a nuisance.

David Rappaport's family & the creators of the show are all very much in favor of releasing the show & are very involved in the fansite. Doug Barr & Priscilla Weems are also very much behind it. But it's going to take the fans pulling together & stepping up to the plate & believing that it's possible. Whatever proof you have for anything else, I have proof that you are one of the people who don't think it's possible.

For the umteenth billionth time of clarification, my so-called "clique" is David Rappaport's family, Michael Berk, Douglas Schwartz, Doug Barr & Priscilla Weems. They are here because, sadly, I was the first person to take the initiative to contact them & make sure they are involved as possible.

I know all too well that you, Viv, & a great many other fans like you all swear to love & desperately want the show released but have little faith in yourself & your own ideas. So little, in fact, that the all suggestions & ideas I receive come in the form of what I should be doing instead of what you are personally willing to do on your own. And then there have only been one or two suggestions in all this time.

Have you actually been out in your area putting your ideas into practice while I've been putting all of my ideas into action on a global level? If you haven't then perhaps you might find things move along faster if you step up to your own plate.

What's sad is that only 1 out of 50 fans visit the site searching for the show on DVD & don't give up because it's not available. Those who have signed the petition & vote on TVhowsonDVD are the most heroic. Those who are putting their own ideas into action are the most heroic.

Now, I'm off to continue my work in bringing The Wizard to the world. I hope that someday you & anyone else with your own campaign ideas will have enough faith in yourself & the show to put them into practice on your own. To have enough faith in the show to believe that release to DVD & rebroadcast is possible. To date, I have not seen this from the person continually responding to this post.

Nope, you need to go back & read my last post again. I just did & there is nothing in there that accuses you of saying I said those things. You also are long overdue for a re-reading of the IMDB rule against using All Caps in any posts.

To recap, I said I know all too well what little to no faith those who were once involved in the Save The Wizard campaign have in the current campaign. You included. How little faith so many of the fans have. So many gave up in '87 & now are pretty certain it's impossible no matter what happens. Oh yes, I'm well aware & yet I go on believing & knowing it will work because - as Simon said - it simply has to.

I was a bit too generous with with my estimate of 1 out of 50 fans signing the Petition or even thinking of voting on TVshowsonDVD, or following their heart & spreading the word on their own. In actuality, it's more like 1 out of 100. Of those 100, most of the other 99 are searching for the show on DVD & don't care how they get it or who they hurt or disrespect along the way. I know because I take the time to surf the web, to notice which pages are being visited on my site & follow the searches other fans are making. I take the time to read the posts in this message board, on YouTube & elsewhere with people offering copies for sale or begging to buy copies at any price. People you swear to battle, yet so readily ignore. Where are your posts shaming these people for what they are doing?

If I have no faith then why am I the first person to create a website dedicated solely to the show? To give up so much time, money, effort, heart & soul to give The Wizard & David Rappaport the cyber showcase they so richly deserves & take the initiative to start my own leg of the campaign without waiting for permission from anyone else?

I also made the effort to involve Michael Berk, Douglas Schwartz, David Rappaport's family, Priscilla Weems & Doug Barr. Something that no one else apparently thought was of much importance or even possible. That's really sad considering that so many people were actually in personal contact with Michael & Douglas during the Save The Wizard campaign & should have known how much the show meant to them. I take the time to keep them all incredibly well informed & I feel their involvement is of the utmost importance. This is their show, after all.

Yes, it will take a lot of people putting their own ideas into action all over the world for this campaign to gain the momentum to get somewhere. Your own ideas about starting a local campaign are exactly along those lines. Do you expect the rest of us to move to your locality so you don't have to do any of the work there?

Why are you so adamant about the brilliance of your own ideas, yet so hesitant to put them into action? Why are you only speaking of them in this thread instead of getting out there & posting something of your own? One would think we would all be seeing a surge of support from your city & hearing you speak of it with pride if you were putting your own plans into action. Making your own posts everywhere listing out your ideas for the campaign instead of only mentioning them in this thread.

There are some very heroic people, like David Rappaport's cousin Frankie Leigh & his friend Nabil Shaban, who have been working to get signatures for the petition & to just get the word out in general. Frankie & Nabil both went to work on their own, used their own initiatives to get the job done. The Global Petition on the fansite is a way for all of the separate campaigns to join together. It is very important to Michael & Douglas, & David's family. Both the Global Petition & the Fansite belong to Michael Berk, Douglas Schwartz, David's family, Doug Barr & the rest of the cast & crew. I am their public representative & I am very humbled & honored to be entrusted with this very important volunteer job. Yes, I am in charge of the Fansite & I take my charge very seriously. To keep the order of importance - David first, the show second, the fans third. Only the fans who want to come first seem to have a problem with the order of importance or my being in charge.

For anyone catching this post first, this thread really is about Respect for The Wizard. This is why I keep turning the subject back to the show, itself. My best advice is to think about what you would want Simon, Alex & Tillie to do if this was your show & they swore to be adamant & devoted fans. Would you want them to give up on you or treat you with unthinking disrespect? Or would you expect them to step up & do the right thing. To be the Wizard they already are & use their own initiative to fight for you. No one person has the exact right answer. I never said they did. I had an idea & I put it into action. Not only the Global Petition, but also the Fansite to bridge the chasm between the fans & the show. So feel free to get out there & do the same. Be the Wizard you already are & give something back.

Thank you for your honesty in finally admitting that you do not care about The Wizard or those who created The Wizard & brought it to your television. Admitting that you have no faith in the petition, any campaign, any ideas (including your own), & the fans who are taking a moment out of their lives & schedules to give a moment to fight for the show they hold so dear, or anything else having to do with The Wizard.

So, are you now suggesting that the best use of the Official Fansite for The Wizard is for me to offer free copies to everyone? Shame on you!! Yes, shame on you for thinking that the fans of The Wizard, the cast & crew who worked & fought so hard to bring the show to the airwaves, & the show itself don't deserve anything more than continued copies of copies of copies - very, very degraded copies - of these episodes. This show, it's wit & wisdom, special effects, imagination & wonder deserve to be presented in today's high definition quality. Those who created this show, from the imagination to the screen, deserve to be compensated. Although no amount of money in the universe could repay them for this work, they don't deserve to be continually ignored or treated as unimportant. They deserve our respect. They may not have yours, but they certainly have mine.

I'm sure that all the studios will be very interested to know that you feel they have no place in distributing their own shows. That they should just hand over everything & let the fans pass it around. I bet they wouldn't like your idea. Not one little bit. It also wouldn't stop selling for profit at all. Probably encourage it more.

If you were to ask Michael Berk, Douglas Schwartz, & David's family they would tell you that I copy & paste from this very message board to send them the messages therein, which I will do again so that they can read your own words - & mine. They get to hear about everything. Probably much more than they expect. But I think they deserve it since no one has breathed a word to them in the 16 years between David's passing & the time I started the fansite. At least I have had the decency to include them at all. Something I sadly can't say for the others, including you. A true fan would take them into consideration, knowing how much this show meant to them in 1986/1987 & still means today. They are wonderful, wonderful people who care & I am blessed & honored to call them friends.

For someone who has oh so many other more important things to do, you certainly dedicate yourself to this post. How you ended up electing me to come before David, I can only guess & really don't want to know. But David Rappaport comes first in my playbook.

Please go do that something else better you have to do - whatever it is that you claim takes precedence - & leave the rest of us to help turn the world around by bringing back The Wizard to the fans of the past, present & future. I don't care why you delay in posting. It just seems like a waste of your valuable time to keep posting the same unbelief over & over again. The Wizard needs believers. People who believe in Never Giving Up. If this isn't you - & I'm so glad you can now stop pretending like it is - then go find something else to do.

David first, The Wizard second, the fans third. Respect for The Wizard & Never Give Up are the names of the game. That is where the rest of us are focused & its time for me to get back to work bringing The Wizard to the world.

Such easy questions to answer & so obvious that you either didn't actually watch The Wizard or didn't pay attention when you did.

The Wizard embodied lessons in kindness, compassion, trust, love for our fellow human beings, respect for the world, respect for the universe, respect for each other, & that it is possible to solve problems without resorting to violence. Those who made this show worked very hard to fill the viewers minds with positive food for thought. Even about how important imagination and embracing our inner child is to all of the above. The fansite is packed with information, scripts & even quotes from the show, that prove just that.

If you want to get into specifics, besides dedicating myself to bringing The Wizard to fans past, present & future, I also dedicate myself to work with David's friend Nabil Shaban in his battle for the rights of all humans - disabled & the temporarily able-bodied alike. To bring to light all the atrocities of the Holocaust, especially the rarely mentioned attempted genocide of the disabled, in order to bring a stop to these atrocities as they exist in today's world. Because Nabil & I both care so much about David & all the work he did to make this world a better place while he was here, The Wizard is also an important part of our work.

Human rights were an important part of The Wizard. Considering the fare available on TV nowadays, I think fighting for a show that would bring these issues back to the table is a very important part of the fight, indeed.

You obviously have no care about what goes on here so please go spend your time elsewhere. I sincerely hope that you can use some of the energy you waste on a campaign you don't believe in for a show you care nothing about in positive endeavors & leave this world a better place.

This thread has been all about The Wizard from the very beginning. David first, The Wizard second. All anyone has to do is read the first post in the thread to figure that out. You were the one who turned the spotlight elsewhere because the rest of us aren't willing to turn the spotlight on you. It will be very easy for anyone reading through this thread to realize that I have worked very hard to make sure you don't have the last word & that the thread remains about Respect For The Wizard. If you still consider that "twisting the facts" then I suggest you take another look at the message board you are currently in & the subject of this thread.

There is no reason for me to be ashamed of my work or the people I work with - whether other fans or cast & crew from The Wizard or David's friends. You are very out of touch & it shows with every instance of accusing one of my friends of using a fanclub group to sell copies of the show. Talk of selling or sharing copies of the show is not allowed in that group & the person you speak of does not make copies. Whatever 'proof' you have is incredibly outdated. She is, however, the very first (& most important) name on the Global Petition. She signed without a moments hesitation. Her doubt in the campaign dissipated long ago.

It also is very clear that you have devised some sort of personal agenda with both myself & Viv, as you openly encourage others to do what you accuse her of. Only responding in this post while ignoring the rest out there & demeaning all other efforts to release the show is openly encouraging them to continue on. They certainly have a supporter in you.

There is no reason why I should not speak of The Wizard & my work in it, or shout it from the rooftops. Anyone out there fighting for a just cause should be willing to shout about it from the rooftops in order to get the attention of others who may not realize that an injustice has been done or that there is anything they can do about it. If bringing back The Wizard can help stop the wars in this world, stop a bully/abuser before they get started, help a victim become a survivor, guide people to respect themselves, others & the world/universe around them, help everyone to think about the consequences of their actions before they make that choice, then why shouldn't I be shouting about it from the rooftops? Why shouldn't I be proud to be associated with The Wizard & all those involved in it?

Why shouldn't I be proud to speak of the influence The Wizard has in my life just like every other fan?

Television today is still used as a mind-numbing babysitter for people of all ages. Why not fight for a show that can bring about family discussions of important issues. To make someone think twice before they pick up that gun to solve their problems. Even to make people think twice before they blindly follow their government into battle.

(I suggest you research Nabil's work before bringing up any political issues or political figures because you are waaaaayyyy off base)

Empowerment was also an important part of The Wizard. Those who watched the show may not consciously remember all the lessons that they learned, but those lessons did stick with them. The proof of that is evident in the fan letters currently on the Fansite & those waiting to be added. Why shouldn't anyone fight to bring those lessons & wisdom to new generations.

I sincerely hope that you are going to move on, as you obviously have nothing more to add here.

This thread is about Repect for The Wizard & those who fought & worked hard to bring the show to the airwaves. They passed on lessons of empowerment, wisdom, peace & love. Let's help bring the magic back to life & pass these lessons on to a world desperately in need of them.

(I sincerely hope you are done wasting time responding in this thread when you have much more important things to do. The Wizard gets the last word in this thread, not you.)

This thread is not about me or the person trying to aim the spotlight at themselves while pretending to aim it back at me in an effort to do whatever it is they are trying to do. This thread is about a television show called The Wizard & the respect it so richly deserves from the fans who remember it so fondly. The Wizard, a television show created to remind us all about the importance of the wonders of childhood, imagination, love, respect, kindness, caring, & giving. Something to remind the grown-ups watching that it is important for them to not throw these things away because they have reached adulthood. A television show adults can feel safe letting the children in their homes watch alone, & also a television show a family can watch & learn from together.

As Doug Barr said in the message he sent to for the Fansite, "The Wizard was one of those rare situations in which television lived up to its potential to be both entertaining & inspiring." And he's absolutely right.

Even those who were bound & determined to remove The Wizard from the airwaves because they didn't believe in the show or the fans could not stop The Wizard from leaving memories that have stood the test of time. This show left a deep & lasting impression on viewers around the world. No matter the language, no matter the country, The Wizard brought a message of love, understanding, respect, & non-violence that has remained with each viewer to this day.

Human rights issues, the importance of following our hearts & our instincts, respecting & loving ourselves & others, respecting the world & universe around us, being conscious of the choices we make, learning that weapons & violence are not the end-all-be-all answers to any problem, using our imaginations, taking time to have fun, believing that anything is possible & being open to those possibilities no matter how far-fetched they seem, & Never Giving Up.

There is so much included in these 19 episodes that it is difficult to list them all by memory. Each character has such incredible depth that they even have their own weaknesses, which they must face & deal with. In Simon's case, it's candy. In Alex's case, it's lack of trust. In Tillie's case, it's poker & superstitions. In Troyan's case, it's not taking responsibility for his own actions.

Every viewer has picked up on something different & remembered something different from the show. And there are so many fans around the world that simply making copies & passing them around is just not an option. Selling copies is disrespectful & also not an option. There is no way to get the show to all the fans either way. So many would get left out.

The only respectful & decent solution is to make your voice heard in support of The Wizard. There are many different ways everyone can do just that. Yes, anyone could very well start their own campaign in their locality or blog or website. Everyone can certainly vote at the TVshowsonDVD website. And, yes, everyone can add their name - no matter where you are around the world - to the Global Petition on the Official Fansite.

If anyone still thinking this is impossible, just remember that the internet has removed the shield the decision makers at Fox had 21 years ago. They can't just ignore the fans & pretend there isn't enough viewer interest anymore. But if we don't speak up in some way, then they don't have to pretend because we are pretty much telling them we aren't all that interested in seeing the show again.

The world needs The Wizard & more television shows like it now more than ever. The fans need to show as much respect for The Wizard as the show, cast & crew showed for us by fighting to get the The Wizard on the air & keep it on the air despite increasingly insurmountable odds. If they hadn't been so dedicated there wouldn't have even been a premiere episode for us to remember, celebrate, & desperately want to see again. Repaying them with respect & showing our support shouldn't be all that much to ask of any of us.

I have been to your fan site- it's nice...
Now, when are Automan or Manimal comming out on dvd?

reply

Yes, The Wizard will be out on DVD. When exactly, we still don't know yet. But everyone will more than likely hear about it first on the fansite.

Glad you enjoyed your visit to the fansite. There is still a ton of memorabilia to add from Michael Berk's collection, so please feel free to stop by again as often as you like.

The listing on Wikipedia has also been updated with a lot of information about the show, including an acurate description of the series, itself, & brief descriptions of each episode.

As for Automan & Manimal, I personally don't have any information for them, but I do notice a lot of people around the Internet talking about the shows & how much they want to see them again. Definitely take a look through IMDB & around the internet to see who & what is out there. Check out TVshowsonDVD.com to see where the shows rank. If they are not listed, get them listed. If they are listed but have a low ranking, don't be discouraged. Get out there & start your own campaign. Definitely try to work with the people who made the shows if at all possible.

Just remember the slogans of The Wizard - "Anything Is Possible" & "Never Give Up"

Gee, THANK YOU for whining to IMDB about my posts, Jessica. Of course, you COULDN'T very well leave anything up that would show what you people are up to, now could you? The fact that you resorted to such tactics only further shows your "HONEST" nature. :))

Concerning the wizard, what people like Jessica don't want known is that at the rate they are going with the tactics they're using, it will be roughly 10 years before enough attention is focused on the wizard to make it profitable for release - and that is all the studios care about.

The below are the current stats for the show - as you can see, it's extremely low in the rankings.

Each of them is more likely to see a release, because most people simply don't remember The Wizard.

Jessica's way is for people who are already fans to get together, ignoring those who've either forgotten about the show or never saw it - having either missed it or were born after it's time.

Is that the route all of you want to take? Because if it is it only makes your dreams harder to bring about.

The Official Fansite Global Petition Total To Date:
359 names

Many of the names on the Global Petition are from people around the world who have never seen The Wizard, but are very interested &/or just wish to fight for quality television, just from the information available on the Fansite. They often heard about the Petition from Wizard fans who also signed - & then passed on the word. Many found the Fansite while searching for information on their favorite cast or crew member, not realizing that person had been apart of The Wizard.

There are names from fans around the world. Some names are from fans within Fox.

Many visitors to the Fansite &/or Petition signers - Wizard fans or not - don't feel comfortable having to register so much personal information with a 3rd party website like TVshowsonDVD.com. They also feel that this fight is too deeply emotional & personal to be just a percentage on a chart. Yet, the Fansite continues to encourage everyone everywhere to vote there, add their names to the Petition, talk about the campaign with family, friends, associates, write to local Fox &/or CBS stations, newspapers, blogs, message boards, magazines, favorite talk shows, the Fox Hulu video website, etc.

Anyone in the entertainment industry will be able to confirm how important word of mouth is to the success of any project. Now The Wizard has the internet, so use it.

Messages sent through the Fansite are passed on to the cast & crew of The Wizard, as well as 20th Century Fox.

Sadly, the majority of Wizard fans around the world have decided to embrace the "me first" & "everything is impossible" approaches, choosing to do nothing. Hence the incredible chasm in the numbers above. This mindset is what will help keep The Wizard in the vaults that much longer. You, the reader, can embrace their negativity, or embrace The Wizard's Positive Mental Attitude & help Rescue The Wizard. If the negative people would choose to be positive the series would be released in no time.

Those who already remember The Wizard should be talking about it with everyone they know. You will be amazed at the number of people who will remember just by the title, hearing the theme song on the Fansite (embedded there with permission), or checking out the pictures. Even checking out the episode summaries on Wikipedia or reading messages from other fans can trigger &/or confirm memories.

Negotiations are still underway between The Wizard & 20th Century Fox Studios. This will not happen overnight. One of the multitude of possibilities is bringing the entire series to the Internet in a legal, free way, which would make viewing available to all fans - present & future - around the world. Everyone with The Wizard knows how important this step is for the fans & continue to work with Fox to make this happen. But it certainly wouldn't hurt for the fans to write to Fox & also make this suggestion.

There are many moves in process. Get out there & make some of your own. Talk about The Wizard. Make some Positive Noise. Stop waiting on the Fansite & TVshowsonDVD.com to do absolutely everything. Everyone at The Wizard (Michael Berk, Douglas Schwartz, David Rappaport's family, Doug Barr, The Weems family, The MGT.) appreciates all of the Positive Help we have already received. Positive Help is always welcome.

Oh behalf of Michael Berk, Douglas Schwartz, Doug Barr, David Rappaport's family & friends, Priscilla Weems & her family, and 20th Century Fox - Thank You So Very Much to everyone around the world who has stepped up to the plate to Rescue The Wizard from the studio vaults!!!

Contrary to popular belief, the need for this campaign is not unique to The Wizard. If it was there would be no need for a website like TVshowsonDVD.com. Just like all other program releases & rebroadcasts, the studios must have input from the public to make this decision. They need to hear from you.

The original campaign to save The Wizard from cancellation was called "Save The Wizard". The current campaign to rescue The Wizard from the vaults of 20th Century Fox is called "Rescue The Wizard".

The letters & petitions transcribed on the Fansite from the "Save The Wizard" campaign were saved by Michael Berk for over 20 years. There are many more left to transcribe. Many more signatures left to count. Counting those signatures & transcribing those letters & petitions are there to let the fans finally speak for themselves after being ignored by the former Fox regime. The fact that the number of signatures counted from the "Save The Wizard" campaign has already surpassed the number of names on the "Rescue The Wizard" Petition should be a wake up call & inspiration to anyone thinking it is impossible.

The truth is that it has taken 21 years to collect 368 signatures to Rescue The Wizard because no one else chose to take this to a global level until 2 years ago. Now that it is there, many fans still choose not to get involved. The longer it takes people to step up to the plate, the longer it will take for The Wizard to be released.

The truth is that there is no way to convince anyone who wishes to believe that everything is impossible. We could post numbers until the 12th of Never & it still wouldn't convince these people. Some people will find reasons to disparage, attempt to derail & un-inspire every chance they get. These are choices. Choices the cast, crew, David Rappaport's family, friends, & 20th Century Fox don't intend to make.

The goal of everyone at The Wizard is to bring about the series' release, broadcast, & rebroadcast in every language & every medium - worldwide. The Rescue The Wizard campaign will not be over until that time. US release of the series on DVD is only one option, but the option that current fans are most searching for. (just check out the other posts & threads in this message board if you have any doubt) But the Global Petition List on the Fansite is about far more than a DVD.

The truth is, if left up to TVshowsonDVD.com alone to rescue The Wizard, 20th Century Fox Studios will still not be aware of either the series or the desire of any of the viewing public to watch &/or own the series. The studio would not want to offer the series for broadcast. Now they do. This is because the Fansite (fans, series' creators, cast & crew) has been able to help TVshowsonDVD.com do what it cannot, focus on The Wizard rather than continually compare the series to every other program out there. The Wizard is in a league of it's own, so are it's fans. 20th Century Fox gets to find out about not only the percentages & numbers from TVshowsonDVD.com, but also the heartfelt messages from the fans themselves. There are even old & new fans within Fox itself.

This is going to take teamwork & faith. We all appreciate the 369 people who have added their names to the Petition List - a list Fox Studios pays attention to with great interest. The old & new Wizard fans at Fox need every fans help to get their favorite series released. The Wizard may be unique, but the demand needed from the viewing public is not.

Rebroadcast in the US will more than likely happen first. This is only one of the many, many options being pursued. In this option, fans can also make a difference by contacting their favorite TV channels/networks (even local stations) to suggest The Wizard be added to their line-up.

This is where our focus is & remains - the universe of possibilities to bring The Wizard to the entire world.

On behalf of Michael Berk, Douglas Schwartz, David Rappaport's family & friends, Doug Barr, Priscilla Weems & family, and 20th Century Fox - Thank You so very much to everyone who has made their voice heard to Rescue The Wizard!!!!! Like I've said before, all YOU'RE focusing on is a small slice of the pie.

You've set yourself up to actualy COMPETE for votes with tvshowsondvd, & are using "The Wizard" as a means of being the "popular person".

1 - if you actually cared about the show like you claim, there'd be a hell of a lot more people who'd know about it, since you've supposedly been preading the word for years.

2 - You seem to think that a tv show (or should I say, your popularity) is more important than what's going on in the real world. Do you realize that right now a christian extremist group here in the US has started terrorising anyone who refuses to join thier "cult"? Or that innocent people are being victimized by these SOB's? Do you even care what happens to others? Cause from what I remember Simon wouldn't ignore that kind of s***. Hell, most characters from the 80's wouldn't - they'd stand up & stand against it!

Until you wake up & realize that, You only hinder things.

This thread is reserved & dedicated to The Wizard - a series dedicated to diversity & respect. A series whose messages of peace, love, understanding, friendship, the importance of choices, & the importance of realizing that "Life has many answers" (Simon McKay) has transcended the boundaries of cancellation, decades, generations, societies, politics, & even religions. It cannot cure all the ills & travesties of this world (no one connected with The Wizard has ever claimed it could), but it has & continues to inspire peace, love, friendship, imagination & creativity for thousands upon thousands of fans around the world. U.S., Canada, Mexico, Columbia, Venezuela, Brazil, France, Spain, Poland, Pakistan, New Zealand, Australia (probably more).

Yes, the series has made new fans - 99.9% of whom have only read about The Wizard & are now very anxious to watch for themselves.

If you're curious about The Wizard fandom, then start surfing the web. Be sure to surf all of the titles The Wizard has aired under throughout the world throughout the years. There is a list on the Fansite home page.

The goal of The Wizard creators Michael Berk & Douglas Schwartz, David Rappaport's family & friends, Doug Barr, Priscilla Weems, & 20th Century Fox is to bring the messages & magic of The Wizard to the entire world - in every language & every medium Worldwide. To leave such a monumental & seemingly impossible task up to just one solution would be a great disservice.

This will take teamwork, & the Fansite states very clearly on the FAQ & Wizard on DVD pages that voting on TVshowsonDVD.com is one of the many ways to Rescue The Wizard. Everyone is encouraged to take advantage of all the opportunities at once. It is not a competition to see who gets the most votes first. The Fansite is very proud to be helping TVshowsonDVD.com because they cannot focus on The Wizard alone. They cannot let the fans be more than a percentage on a chart. Nor could they have brought The Wizard to 20th Century Fox's attention before many more votes had been cast. The Fansite has been able to help out by giving the fans information as well as a bridge to the cast, crew & Fox. Now we are so very much closer to Rescuing The Wizard & 20th Century Fox is paying enthusiastic attention like never before. It is taking lots of teamwork to do it.

It would be wonderful if every fan rushed to take advantage of every opportunity to vote on TVshowsonDVD.com, sign the Fansite Global Petition, write to television stations about broadcasts, & talk to everyone they know, but this is a choice that each person must make in their own heart - of their own free will. An amazing number of opportunities are there for anyone who wishes to take them. What a fabulous gift to give to a world that never ceases to be war-torn.

It will be wonderful when The Wizard can continue to inspire peaceful, non-violent solutions, diversity, friendship & respect. To continue to teach that yelling & cursing is not the way to have an intelligent conversation or get any point across.

"You don't judge a person by their height. It's the size of their heart that really matters. And, you know, we've all got something in common . . . we're all different." - Simon McKay 'El Dorado'

Remembwer how you cut my post on your board when I dared to suggest something? Why do you think I demanded you remove my OTHER suggestion, for the hell of it? at the least you're hyoping the show to gain popularity. At worst you're sending people to viv to buy copies on the sly, & I KNOW she's still selling copies of the series.

Of course now you'll just come back spouting the same exact thing that you always repeat over and over. But your actions speak louder than your words Jesica. Actions like false reports to IMDB to get my posts cut, the constant hyping of your own private site & petition, even though Fox's more likely to cue off the voting at tvshowsondvd, The alternate info you get rid off for the sake of staying popular. You're just like another so called "fan", started a forum for coming up with ideas to get a show released on dvd, yet talked about everything BUT. Those that tried posting ideas or dared to ask why nothing was being done, they wound up harrassed, made fun of, & told to shut up. & when I let them know I'd been documenting all their bull****, I started getting hits from people trying to hack me.

Funny thing is, in spite of her & her friends not doing anything, the show got released, & I won't say more than that.

(IMDB does not remove posts from these boards unless those posts break serious rules. Read the rules. The administrators don't mess around.)

Thanks to Michael Berk, there is now proof beyond my word that The Wizard 1986 TV Official Fansite is the official website of The Wizard in a very public way. That the Rescue The Wizard campaign is for real. The signatures on the Global Petition from fans around the world prove that it is neither private, nor closed off.

You can watch his personal video message to you on the Fansite (which I am apparently not allowed to leave a direct link for here)

Michael's video also proves that 20th Century Fox is paying attention to the fans, the Global Petition on the fansite, & are probably now paying attention to The Wizard's entry on TVshowsonDVD.com. Something they wouldn't have done for many years to come had we not brought The Wizard to their attention.

As I posted on the former Fan Memories/Guestbook message board on the Fansite before the some posts were removed by demand of the submitter, others are welcome to try putting up posters around their town (pictures must be marked with copyrights), but we do not condone leaving copies of The Wizard lying around. For our part, it would be detrimental to the entire Rescue The Wizard campaign if we stopped focusing on the ultimate goal.

The ultimate goal is not The Wizard on DVD. Rather we focus on bringing The Wizard to everyone around the world in every language & in every medium. 20th Century Fox is very well aware of this. DVDs are simply one step, but because most fans are specifically searching for The Wizard on DVD or VHS, we have set up the web pages so they are easily searched for. All emails received for the Rescue The Wizard campaign are passed on to Michael Berk, Douglas Schwartz, David Rappaport's family, & 20h Century Fox. Doug Barr is also kept informed.

20th Century Fox needs to hear from the public, period. We have given people around the world a direct line to 20th Century Fox through the Fansite. We are also constantly working on many other projects which keep the best long-term interests of The Wizard #1.

If you want 20th Century Fox to release The Wizard, write to them & tell them so. If you want to ensure that more people are writing in, please tell everyone you know. Another option is to write to your favorite television stations/networks to kindly suggest they add The Wizard to their lineups. Write to your local newspaper editor, local Fox & CBS affiliates. They need to receive viewer demand. Give it to them.

When it comes to campaign suggestions, what we really want to hear about are the ideas you, yourself, are putting into action. There have been posts on MyLot, Myspace, other messages boards. Emails to friends & family. Letters to the editor. Just keep them respectful to all involved, don't use pictures without copyright marks (we don't want anyone to get sued), & please don't pass out copies of any episodes. If you have tapes of your own, show them but please don't make copies.

The Wizard will be released thanks to the hard work of so many people from around the world.

Ok, here is my take. If anyone cares. I have to agree with Jessica. For that one guy who claims she is out for attention. I disagree. It seems as though she has great care, and respect for this show. Which is great to see. Considering that television today has gone straight to the dogs. The Wizard being released on DVD would be wonderful. It seems that so much of television today focuses on someones problems in the real world. That would be called reality tv (Or, what I call scripted reality tv. LOL) Anyways, shows like the Wizard are rare today sad to say.

Childrens programing is not the quality it once was. And, the great thing about this show is that it teaches lessons to children, and adults a like. I am 33, I faintly remember some of the episodes of this show. In all fairness I don't think the show was given a proper chance. I remember it jumping in the time slots. I think I seen maybe 3 or 4 episodes. I even have the second one on VHS tape. So, I too enjoyed the show. The show taught us that anything is possible if you believe hard enough, and work hard enough.

I have been coming to this thread a few times. And, I find this particular one pretty interesting. Jessica seems to be doing a good job with her cause. I commend her. And, honestly. If she was in it for attention. Then, how come she has the backing, and support from the creators of the show, as well as Douglas Bar, and the other people that had a lot to do with the show? I too want to see this show on DVD. I have a REAL taste for the obscure. Specifically tv from the 80's. I will not lie. I have been to the copiers of other TV shows that honestly don't stand a chance of getting on DVD. I know this, and I have been right on those shows. This show however DOES stand a chance. I love the official releases of stuff. I am a DVD official release buff. Like, I said I have gotten only a few illegal copies of things. But, to be honest. If one day the networks did surprise me (I would drop dead of a heartattack. LOL) and release them officially. You bet I would be in the stores buying them.

The fan support that I see for this show seems to be a good one. And, it is great to see someone with spirit, and caring that wants to see this show brought out of the vaults, and in to the world again. If any show is worthy of this. It most definatly is The Wizard. I am with Jessica on this one. And, I am willing to wait for the great day that it comes out on DVD. Jessica, I will more then likely catch heat for saying this part. But, I don't care.

Don't listen to these guys when they spout off, and judge you. You are doing something to see this show come out of the dark. No, if you ask me. You are doing more then something. You are getting involved, further more. You are involved with the people who made this show. This in itself is remarkable, and it shows how down to Earth, and kind the people who were involved making The Wizard really are. It seems to me that the people flaming you are more then likely jealous. But, like you said. People with ideas on how to get the show pitched for DVD release don't wait for permission. Go for it. That is apparently what you have done, and look at the results.

The way to do it is to keep at them. Let the powers that be know that there is a fan base for this show. I will say this though. I am also a HUGE Parker Lewis Can't Lose fan. I read an interview that Corin Nemic (The actor who played Parker Lewis) gave. He said that he went to Sony in hopes of getting a hold of the rights to the show. So, he could have it released on DVD. Well, needless to say. They were not interested. They said that they didn't want to share the profits with another party. This, really infuriates me. And, so I can releate to the frustration that most have for this cause. The Wizard is just one of many shows that are sitting on the shelves, when it could be making money for the distributors, and people who were involved. I just don't understand why people like 20th Century Fox, and Sony just sit on some of these shows, with a screaming fan base who are willing to pay good money to them if the would just give the green light for official release.

However, I am with you. Good work, and don't let these other jokers say you are not doing your part, or that your motives are not what they seem to be. Ok, I am done with my book now. LOL

Lennon, how long have you been part of her little clique? I ask cause you show right in your post that you are.

For everyone else, I wish it were otherwise with her, but she's shown her true colors time & again. & like another self styled "fan leader", her dominating methods for everyone flocking to her actually hurts not only the chances for a release but for new fans to be won over.

The same thing happened at first with a more recently canceled show - birds of prey. a person calling themself "LisaM"(if I remember right) pretty much tried to dominate & control everyone working towards it's release on DVD, insisting on such outdated methods as petitions letters to the network&studio & sending ?GIFT BASKETS? to scifi channel in the hope that they would pick it up.

The letters tended to be tossed in the circular file, the petitions were ignored (Sad to say, petitions don't tend to work anymore like they did with the original star trek series), & the gift baskets didn't have any effect either. :(

BUT, with people like Oracleruby & her sister we formed a network using the same tactics used to excellent effect during the 90's project commonly refered to as the "anime underground".

Just like LisaM, Jessica tends to not only ignore new ideas but to label those posting them as "dissidents" & "troublemakers", among other things, because she sees it as a threat to her popularity. :(

The thing that was stopping us from using the same tactics to help bring attention to THE WIZARD was no copies of any episodes - TILL NOW! Now that we have episodes to work with we can begin fighting for a DVD release in a way that the studios can't ignore or counter - after all it's hard for the studio to counter an increasing fanbase.
