NYC Setting

This and many other sitcoms from the 80's were supposed to be based in New York City. A few others that come to mind are "Double Trouble" in its second season; the very short-lived"Jackee"; "Gimme a Break" during the last two seasons; and "Diff'rent Strokes." In all of these sitcoms - which I enjoy to this day - there is one thing I cannot deny. One has to totally suspend disbelief that they are supposed to be taking place in New York City! I guess that the grittiness and reality of NYC would be considered too tough for prime time back then. But it is amazing just how far from reality these representations of characters are from what the norm is in real New York City! Even with the elements of "literary license" and dramatization for TV, it's still very obvious that these were Angelinos' (or other non-New Yorkers') views of what it's like to live in New York!
