Very surprising thumbs up from Gene Siskel

There were quite a few movies Roger Ebert liked that stunned Gene Siskel, but what about the other way around?

The only ones I can think of:

Rocky IV (1985)

Lambada (1990)

Career Opportunities (1991)

Any more?

Can think of any off the top of my head, you can use this link http://www.siskelandebert.org and see if you can find more movies like this. I bet you might even find the reviews for the movies there, if not you can always try to ask for them see if somebody has them and uploaded if you want to see them again. But I bet the reviews will be hard to come by since a lot of them will be at least 20 or more years old, there still are plenty that aren't hit that yet, but somebody would have had to record it using a vcr and still have to have the tape now, and without recording over it.

Baby's Day Out (1994) is another.

Probably Rambo III. I think Gene felt that it delivered as far as action pictures go.....and didn't expect more from it on that basis.

Siskel gave a thumbs up to Armageddon because he had a fun time laughing at how loud and constant it was.

My Stepmother Is an Alien (1988)

Star Trek: Insurrection. I really don't intend to sound mean, but this was not too long after his brain surgery, so I wonder from watching the review if it affected his ability to critically examine a movie on a deeper level. He like some of the face value things that don't amount to much.

Would it be worth watching the video since a lot of reviews from what was his last year of his life weren't really the same as it was before, his speech was slurred and it always looked like he didn't really know what he wanted to say before his brain surgery.

reply

It wasn't any more intriguing than any other episode, as there wasn't much bickering in this case.

Shocker (1989) - Its a favorite of mine that got some bad reviews including a BOMB rating from Leonard Maltin. Siskel gave it a thumbs up. Im glad he did.

I would like to make a mention if anybody wants to watch the movie review you can find it at http://www.siskelandebert.org , I don't recall ever hearing of this movie and i bet not only Roger Ebert but i bet a lot of the major movie critics must have been shocked that he liked the movie.
