Remake Silverhawks for a new animated series? How would you do it?

Inspired by the "Amping up the Thundercats" thread on the Thundercats board that discusses how we the fans would like to see Thundercats updated or "amped up" for a modern series, discuss here what changes or tweaks or additional story material you would like to see if Silverhawks was ever optioned for a remake as an animated series.

Me? Well, I got nothin' at the moment. Obviously, the heroes backstories could use some fleshing out and more diverse personalities applied...

reply

Yeah I'd like to have their personalities sharpened and specialties more clearly defined or highlighted better. I might tweak 'Copper Kid' a bit too; Make him less cutesy. I'd also like to see Mon*Star fleshed out better; play up his vendetta against Stargazer more.

Good suggestion Fluke, which reminds me: the villains obviously would need to be more lethal & sinister than they were previously, the action/violence a tad more intense (but not blood & guts all over the place necessarily).

reply

Yeah that's the real trick; how do you raise the stakes without alienating kids [or more specifically, parents]. I think the 'Clone Wars' micro series from a few years ago would be about the level to aim for maybe?

reply

I never saw "Clone Wars" so I can't comment there. I was thinking a new Silverhawks could be at least on par with the Justice League/JLU show from a few years ago in terms of the tone for violence/intensity, or maybe the well written but short lived He-Man 2002 remake.

reply

I never really watched JL but I did watch the 'MOTU' cartoon back in '02. Haven't seen it in a while, but I remember thinking it looked fantastic. I would say 'Clone Wars' was a notch up from 'MOTU' on the intensity scale. So maybe somewhere in that range.

You know what this thread needs? This thread needs superturbo. He was one of the most vigorous & passionate members of the amping up Thundercats thread, I'm sure he could bolster this with good ideas.

reply

There was a poster named vcrannyc-1 who was very active on the 'Thundercats' for about a month. Started like 2-3 topics a day there for a while. Looks like he hasn't posted in a few weeks. I've come across superturbo many times before. Haven't seen him [her?] in a while though.

The 'Thundercats' board is pretty active, but it's not unusual to see the 'Silverhawks' board go a month without a new post, let alone new topic. What we need is more traffic here .

Okay, I'll try and gin this thread up a bit.

- I would keep the same music, newly recorded obviously. The cartoon had a great theme and some good cues [not as well scored as 'Thundercats' IMO though]. I hated that the 2002 'MOTU' toon ditched the entire catalog of music from the original.

- Go with "hand drawn" animation. Always a hot topic amongst fans. I know the new 'Thundercats' movie will use "CG" animation ala 'TMNT'. I'm just not a fan of it personally but many are.

Sounds good to me.

Back to the subject of character personalities -

I think Quicksilver & Cmd. Stargazer should be more or less the same - the steadfast field leader and the gruff, cantankerous elder statesman, respectively. Quicksilver being a modest, attentive, likable individual, his level headed experience, focus & ability to stay calm under pressure is a stark contrast to the more gung ho, rambunctious, lovably cocky (but sometimes troublesomely cocky) pilot Bluegrass and the technically brilliant but younger, less experienced siblings that Steelheart & Steelwill, who sometimes rely more on their physical strength & durability than on actual tactical thinking (which they would gradually refine & improve on as time elapses).

Feel free to disagree.

Those all sound great. Spot on. Think you nailed it for heroes.

Thank you Fluke. I almost went on a tangent of Steelheart & Steelwill having an almost childlike enthusiasm for their work, but decided not to.

Tangents are what this thread is all about !

Just got done rewatching the whole series on DVD, been racking my brain on the other Silverhawks who came later - Hotwing, Flashback, Moonstryker and Condor, how would they fit into a new series. Can't think of much for them though. Hotwing would probably be the "mystery man" I guess and there's lots of potential in the Stargazer/Condor & Moonstryker/Condor team ups, but I can't put my finger on it.

Is it me or was there something of a bond between Bluegrass & the Copper Kid?

reply

I also see Bluegrass being a major flirt/charmer. And maybe part of the reason Steelheart is more like that is since she was born with a heart defect that severely limited her physical activities (hence why she has the heart implant) and more reliant on physical attacks since she now get to experience the things she missed out on. And Steelwill is the protective brother and rather kind-hearted.

Quicksilver is younger, learning how to be responsable and a leader. He has fealings for Steelheart.

Col. Bluegrass is the badass of the team. Pretty much as Wolverine for the x-men.
Radical and hot tempered however the best figher. He was once in love with Melodia.

Steelheart she was destroyed in mission by Monstar. She is reborn as a cyborg. now more powerful she cannot accept she is no longer a compleate human.

steelwill also destroyed in mission resurects as a cyborg. by contrast he enjoys his new powers. he enjoyes to be a celebrity in the galaxy.

Copper Kidd. his empire race is destroyed. he is the second best fighter of the team. His only true friend is Bluegrass.

I'm cool with that.

Call me crazy but I have a feeling Nolan North could do a good job as Bluegrass.
