No current plans for Season 3 DVD

According to Warner, there are no current plans for any more PS DVDs, though they "continue to evaluate the title."

in other words, its probably not selling as well as they'd like. thats too bad because while i understand its a business and all i sometimes think why bother releasing a season (or 2 in this case) of a show without any guarantee it'll be finished.

not that i think this show was in high demand or anything but yeah. with tv-on-dvd being so common now, and seeing so many shows stopping production before they reach the final season...i'm sure some people are more reluctant to buy a season set fearing they'll never release the rest.

i guess its lose/lose....they need better sales to justify more releases and people need more releases to justify buying them. lol

reply

If the first set didn't sell well, it is because they did an incredibly crummy job of promoting it. I'm a fan of the show, and frequently browse the TV show section of the DVDs whenever I'm out shopping, and I did not have a clue season 1 & 2 was released until I stumbled upon a fan site, about 6 months after the release. My local Best Buy has never had more than 1 or 2 copies, and never advertised it as "new". Ditto for every other store I have checked for it. Later that year when I decided to buy 3 copies as gifts, I had to go to 4 stores, eventually having to order the third copy at Barnes & Noble. Never saw a commercial, magazine ad, or anything else promoting it. For some reason, this show has just been swept under the rug, it doesn't even get aired in reruns anywhere anymore.

reply

promotion is a major factor i'm sure. i rarely ever see commercials for any show, even the big huge recent popular ones. the only reason i ever know release dates is because of websites i regularly visit.

so if you're not on the internet much or at all, its next to impossible to find out about most shows releases, much less the older ones.

but here's a very good website to keep checking.

www.tvshowsondvd.com

i've been a regular visitor there for a good 6yrs or more and they're always up to date and always have all the info about everything. they even keep track of the progress of some shows trying to make their way to dvd. an example is Six Million Dollar Man and Bionic Woman, they've constantly given updates about when they may or may not come over the last few years. and its paid off because both are finally coming soon.

so yeah add that site to your favorites and you'll always know whats coming and when. :)

reply

you're right - horrible promotion.

I remember going nuts when I heard that the 1st Night Court collection had a bonus DVD slipped in the back with an episode of Perfect Strangers on it...

I bought the DVD, took out the bonus disc, retured the rest of set saying it was defective. Can't remember the name of the episode, but it's the one with Doris Roberts as Larry and Balki's maid.

It still took a couple years after that for seasons 1-2 to come out...

I remember gonig to several stores, with only a couple stores having 1 copy in. Other stores had no idea it was out.

Someone in charge of these DVD's must really have something against the series now, really trying to not give a sh*t about it...

I looked for info on a dvd release a couple of years ago. I had no idea it was out until I found it last week in a bargain bin at Walmart.

It's actually held up really well. It's goofy as hell, but I'm laughing at it more than I would have thought. I don't remember it well, although we loved it when we were kids.

What you just described to me in your post is what really aggrivates me about how some shows will be shown on networks in reruns and others they will not show at all. The only two networks that I can name that showed Perfect Strangers in reruns were USA Network and Nick@Nite. See USA Network aired Perfect Strangers during the week before NBC had purchased the network and altered their programming. Just when I happen to be flipping channels and discovered that Perfect Strangers were being shown in reruns on USA Network they immediately pulled it. Basically what it was used for was for filling time. Then Nick@Nite was showing this about 7 or 8 years ago either before Three's Company or after Three's Company was shown late at night. See Nick@Nite did not want fans to know about this show at all and it was not on there very long. The same with Head Of The Class as well! I loved watching this show and thought it was great! I always wondered why it was not aired in reruns for? Come on it had slap stick comedy along with modern day comedy with it. I think some people out there who do not like this show or networks who do not know what people like are stupid!

I was happy to hear that this was on DVD box set for the first two seasons but it has not been picked up for the third season at all! That really makes me mad because I wold love to own all of the episodes on DVD box set!

Ion Television Network had it for a little while back in 2007-08...it was only on for a couple of months---ION was going through a whole slew of 80's shows---they had Who's The Boss? they had Growing Pains they had Quantum Leap they had The Wonder Years (that i believe was the first time since first run syndication ages ago that i had seen The Wonder Years being rerun btw.) they also had Drew Carrey (even if that was of course more of a late 90's show.) it was a nice run of shows and made for excellent counter programming during the winter of the writer's strike when there wasn't much on primetime--then several months later---in that fall to be exact--- they abandoned all of their 80's shows in favor of
more recent hour long reruns---Boston Legal and NCIS and ER to be exact--and then ER was pulled as soon as they could get Criminal Minds and Ghost Whisperer.

It sucks cause i still flip past that channel while channel surfing and see them rerunning Without A Trace reruns now and i think god how i miss when they were the savior of reruns past.

the white zone is for unloading passengers...

who shot who in the what now?

Why don't they just release the rest of the seasons all in one big set, charge a bit more than a 'better selling' series, and I would gladly buy it!

The cost making separate sets would actually be more, so all they'd have to do is pack them all in cardboard slip cases, all put in one case.

I wonder how it couldn't have sold very well, since most places I go, they're sold out.

reply

Hey Warner, ever heard of the internet. Have you heard of iTunes? Make an avi without DRM available and I would happily purchase those titles.

reply

Okay, are you F*%king kidding me?

I just walked into Cinema 1 (Canadian DVD shop) and saw the 1st season of Family Matters in their NEW section.

Sooooooo...they'll release crap like that, but won't release the rest of Perfect Strangers?

So is it a bunch of geeks deciding to which TV shows to release? 'cause it's obviously not a bunch of people that know what great comedy is.

reply

Night Court season 4 has just been released by Warner Archive, so even though I think Night Court isn't a good show...maybe this is a good sign that they'll end up releasing the rest of Perfect Strangers!!?

reply

We can all hope so. I was all about this show when I was a kid and still love it after revisiting it. Does anyone know of a website dedicated to getting the rest of the seasons released?

The Night Court DVD has an episode of Perfect Strangers? Not on my copy.

Try not to take life too seriously, no one gets out alive.

reply

Yes the first pressings of the Night Court DVD had a single disc slipped in behind the back paper insert, inside the plastic wrap - had 3 other TV show episodes - can't remember which TV shows.

The Perfect Strangers episode was the one starring Ray's mom from Everybody Loves Raymond - can't remember her name either!

She plays Larry and Balki's maid.

reply

Family Matters has held up with time better then PS has. Sadly this show has been forgotten about. The lack of reruns is not helping.
Family Matters has a true staying power.

reply

No channel ever seems to be willing to give Perfect Strangers a chance in reruns, even on the odd times it does get in reruns it usually doesn't last that long (it's often been on at bad times and the channel refused to change the timeslot and just got rid of it). In Ion's case, they didn't give it enough time didn't even get onto the better episodes and butchered the episodes they showed. That's hurt the show, but for those of us who love it Warner should at least put it on the Archive

reply

So now "NIGHT COURT: THE COMPLETE EIGHTH SEASON" has been released, and nothing's happening with Perfect Strangers....

What the hell is going on?!

I could be mistaken, but wasn't "Family Matters" a spinoff from the "Perfect Strangers" show?

reply

YES - you're totally right, Family Matters was a spin off.

Harriette's character led into the spinoff.

So wouldn't it like be like Happy Days not getting every season released, but Joanie Loves Chachi getting more DVD love?

reply

I wonder if its more of a function of demographics than anything else. I know "urban" audeinces (is that the PC term these days?) really watched the show. That and Martin.
