Why did this show left syndication?

USA Network aired the show in 1997 till 1999 and after that not other tv networks has ever aired all the episodes Nick at Nite and TV Land has only aired a few episodes before taking the show off completely.

I don't know, but I wish Nick at Nite or somebody would show it. It was one of my favorite shows as a kid in the '80s.

nick at nite used to have such great shows and this is a good one that they SHOULD show, but they show mostly annoying shows now...

For much the same reason that only the first 2 seasons have come out on DVD--music rights. This show did a lot with popular music at the time. The artists want their money for the music to be used in repeats and/or on DVDs and the negotiations can sometimes drag on for years. My guess is that in recent years the contracts for the music expired and the artists are trying to renegotiate their rights and that is what is keeping it from being aired. And the rest of the season put on DVD.

There have been plenty of shows in that situation, which still got released, with music taken out or dubbed over. Married With Children and Mama's Family, in some past releases, from what I read, for instance. These people are just lazy.

Every song was an actor singing it anyway, they never used the original recording. They easily could edit it out of reruns and even on dvd if they had to and really noone would care as it was a minor part of the show. The first 2 seasons did well on dvd, so they should've done that (or at least had another company release it, but that's something that Warner just does not do).

I think the main thing is no channel's willing to give it a chance anymore. One problem is the reruns have been mostly slanted towards earlier episodes which people don't like as much and then they don't get to the later ones (season 3-8) much at all before it's yanked off. This happened on Ion and Nick at Nite/Tv land. It'd be perfect for Familynet, which is now the most interesting channel on cable.
