Lots of crew errors, omissions and/or fakers in this listing.

I know this was a popular show and it's obvious by how many people are claiming to work on it who did not actually do so. There are many mistakes, omissions and flat out fakes in the crew credits. Especially for the first season.

Make-up and hair is wrong.
Grip department is wrong.
There are several assistant cameramen claiming to have worked this show who I never met, and I ran the camera department the whole first season.

To clarify the credits for First season, FIRST UNIT CREW:

Camera Operators:
Daryl Studebaker (DP)
Jeff Hoffman

first assistant camera:
Alex Aurichio
Peter Nelson
Philip Foster

second assistant camera:

Boom man/A2:

You worked on the Playhouse? That's cool. Have any neat stories to share?

reply

Yes, I was the first assistant cameraman on the first season. It was a very cool show to work on even though the pay wasn't great. The crew was very nice and we all went out together every Friday night to party.

Phil Hartman was so cool, he used to draw cartoons of captain Carl on the back of the set walls. I remember talking to him right after he had his first audition at SNL. He was very nervous and not sure if he got the gig. The rest is history.

Larry Fishburne was really nice too (it was okay to call him Larry back then). He once told me about his experience working on Apocalypse Now, and it turned out we lived a few blocks from each other in Brooklyn.

Really everyone was cool except for a couple of major A-holes at the top of the food chain who shall remain nameless.

Even PeeWee was very friendly and fun to work with. As a 1st A.C. I would have to run a tape measure out to Paul's face so I could focus the camera during the shot. I'd ask him "Paul, can I see you on your mark for a second?"

His reply was always..."I don't know? Can you?, hehe!"

That always cracked me up.

We were shooting an episode where Miss Yvonne was having a bad hair day and PeeWee was talking to her on the picture phone. He was at a loss for something to say so I suggested he say "Scarey! Ooooooo!", which he did and it was hilarious.

I was sad when the show moved to L.A. the show had a distinct NYC energy which I feel it lost when it went CA.

Thanks! That's really interesting. I've heard only good things about Phil Hartman and I remember that line from Miss Yvonne very well. That was the "Rainy Day" episode with Randy and the crank phone calls - a classic.

What was John Paragon like? I've heard he's a naturally funny guy.

reply

John Paragon was great. The whole cast was hilarious, as were some of the crew.

reply

I was always impressed with Paragon's work as Jambi and his Showtime comedy special - he's obviously a very talented comic, I was always surprised he never made it big like Paul Reubens and Phil Hartman.

reply

Oh my God! Your resume is amazing. You worked on Class of Nuke 'Em High too?

One thing I'm curious about... Did you meet/ work with Gary Panter, the playhouse set designer? I'm a really big fan of his work.

Thank you for your comment. Today’s my first time looking at the cast for PWPH and it appears there ARE errors. For instance it lists Paul Rueben as appearing in 9 episodes. That's obviously wrong. Others like Phil Hartman and Laurence Fishburne appear to be “under-credited” My daughter and I are watching season 1 and I’ve seen Fishburne at least 3-4 times. He’s listed as 2. Who edits these? Users or IMDB?

Btw… Pee Wee and Fishburne square dancing and moshing in Season 1 is alone worth the price admission.
