Adult swim?
Huh? why is it on cartoon network's 'adult swim?' what's so 'adult' about it?
Note serious face!
Two reasons:
A: The people that watched it when they were kids are adults now.
B: A lot of the humor was actually aimed at adults (as opposed to most of the stuff on Adult Swim which is aimed at 14-year-olds).
C: It could never be shown as "children's entertainment" ever again, due to Reubens's long-ago arrest in an "adult" X-rated movie theater (a "playhouse" of sorts, apparently.)
When my son was a child and tried to watch it, even then it gave me the creeps. Fortunately the boy's attention turned to other programs.

Paul Reubens is an adult. He has sexual urges just like any other adult.
Do you honestly expect him to live his life with the sense of retarded, juvenile sexuality that the Pee-wee Herman character is known for?
Pee-wee Herman wasn't present in that movie theater, he wasn't sitting in the theater with his short hair, grey suit, red bowtie and white loafers. It was Paul Reubens, the normal human being.
For my money, there's never been any work of childrens' programming as excellent as "Pee-wee's Playhouse", and to this day when I watch it at age 26 I still find it incredibly creative and clever, and I have no problem separating Paul Reubens from his Pee-wee Herman persona when watching him.
I don't have kids yet but when I do I won't hesitate to show them "Pee-wee's Playhouse" for even a second.
The post wasn't dumb at all. I agree that he wasn't in costume and shouldn't be harangued for watching a porno, however it isn't at all unusual that he was(I am not however a big fan of anyone masturbating in public, even in a porn theater). It is just part of the game that people who market to children are held to a different standard, perhaps rightfully perhaps wrongfully.
shareI believe it is right that people dealing with kids need to be held to a higher standard. These people influence the youth, now granted, just because Mr. Ruebens masturbated in a porno theater doesn't mean I went and did it, the point is is that as an entertainer for impressionable youth, he needs to be a role model.
As a note, I loved Pee-Wee's playhouse, luckily my parents were able to rationalize a more fictional reason for why it went off the air.
