why is this show on adult swim?

we should really be asking, why is this show NOT on adult swim?

Pee Wee's Playhouse was put on Adult Swim for two reasons I felt -

1. It has a HUGE nostalgia factor to anyone even remotely hip who was breathing during the late 80's and early 90's.

2. It's one of the greatest television shows ever broadcast on television, and it wasn't currently airing on any other channel - Adult Swim did the human race a great justice if only for a little while by airing it.


The thing the Family Guy addicts need to understand is that when Playhouse was initially airing on CBS, it didn't just appeal to children, in fact a great deal of it's fan base was made up by high school and college kids.

Pee Wee's playhouse is a stoner/hipster's children show. If you think Family Guy is the epitome of good television, you are not cool enough to like Pee Wee's playhouse. Just look at who they had working on their designs and music: Gary Panter, (king of punk art) and Mark Mothersbaugh (Devo frontman). And the clay animation was top-notch. The Penny cartoons and El Hombre pioneered weird, non-sequitur humor before Aqua Teen even existed. Every episode was a lowbrow/kitsch-y work of art.

i don't remember ever seeing pee wee's playhouse before Adult Swim(i was born in 90) but a friend was telling me the other day about the time Jambi got hands...Jambi said there's was something he had been wanting to do for a while and closed his little doors and didn't show up again until way later...you never find out what he did with his new hands

this doesn't seem like something that should be on Adult Swim to you?
