Why doesn't Pee Wee use his bike from the movie at the Playhouse?

I never got why he leaves the Playhouse with that weird looking bike/scooter hybrid. Why didn't he use the bike he had from Pee Wee's Big Adventure? After all he went through to get it back too!

-Was it stolen again?

-Were there licensing rights to that particular model?

-Could they not use the bike from the original owner? Did it go to the Smithsonian?

(From what I read, a lot of people rode bikes around the set to get places quicker. So they got him that bike and he loved it so much he rewrote the script to revolve around it. I'm sure he added all that flare to it, though.

I also read they offered the company that gave it to them either $10,000 or a credit in the movie and they took the money.

So to answer your question, I don't know) LOL

(Maybe Paul didn't want to throw down 10 grand to keep it)

He totally should have! That bike is so iconic!! And it would have tied the movie into the series very nicely. :-)

My guess is that since the bike was used in "Pee-Wee's Big Adventure" it was property of Warner Bros., who produced the film. It's likely that licensing rights were the main reason for the scooter.

You might as well question why none of the characters from Big Adventure appear on Pee-wee's Playhouse. (Francis, Amazing Larry, Mario, Dottie, etc.)

I think it works like the Ernest movies: same character, different places and different scenarios that don't acknowledge any of the previous.
