Whoopi and Oprah

Okay, so really? Neither of them knows why they weren't talking to each other for years. Maybe while they were at Tyler's house they just decided to let bygones be bygones and address the issue in public, but not expound on it. I find it very hard to believe that they don't know why. Oprah has stated many times that she really wanted Whoopi's part on Color Purple. Maybe it stemmed from that. Who knows, but glad they decided to bury the hatchet finally.

well Whoopi did tell Harpo to beat her up, so that may be a reason...

reply

LOL...Yep, I'd surely hold a grudge for that!

The long-standing rumor has always been that Whoopi was upset when Oprah didn't cast her in any role for the 1998 movie BELOVED as Oprah (supposedly) first said she would. Too add insult to injury, Whoopi was not part of Oprah's Legends Ball in 2005.

"Thank You, St. Jude for prayers answered."

This is just a guess, but could it be that Whoopi does not exemplify the qualities that Oprah wanted to honor at the Legends Ball - dignity, grace, humility.

That's not to say that Oprah doesn't like Whoopi as a person, or isn't happy for her success. But the Ball was all about elegance and glamour - not exactly Whoopi's strong suits.

pets,
Very true that Wh isnt @ all about legance and glamour,
but I dont think the Legends Ball was "all about elegance and glamour".

It was about champions in each field that she honored: Civil Rights,Music,Entertainmant.

The GREAT Aretha Franklin wasnt there, nor was Whitney Houston. We know each definitely is a trailblazer & record holder in music.

So, why weren't Aretha and Whitney there? Were they invited, but unable to go?

How did Oprah make the final decisions on the guest list? Was it important to her that she have a good relationship with the person first? Was she thinking that certain people might be too difficult?

She wanted the Ball to be successful, whether that meant "elegance and glamour" in her mind, or something else.

reply

Whitney probably wasn't there because I remember at that time she was going through a lot of struggles and probably wasn't well. Aretha Franklin was part of some award show that same weekend.

Well that can't be it. Whoopi has at least those qualities in comparison to many of the othe quests. Let's not make up crap, Whoppie wasn't in the welcoming group either which included:

Alicia Keys, Ashanti, Angela Bassett, Halle Berry, Mary J. Blige, Brandy, Naomi Campbell, Mariah Carey, Natalie Cole, Kimberly Elise, Missy Elliott, Tyra Banks, Iman, Janet Jackson, Phylicia Rashad, Debbie Allen and Alfre Woodard, among others.

You may not like someone's opinion, but having an opinion is not the same as making crap up.

Just a guess is 'making crap up'.
