Had Patrick Swayze decided to do part 3

What would part 3 been about? Part 2 already differed from the book in how he was killed. My question is how part 3 would have been made? I could not see how it could resemble the book in any fashion

reply

I don't think Patrick was asked to do part 3. They used old footage of him in the beginning, before his character was murdered by Bent.

reply

Part 3 was very low budget. I don't think they could have afforded him.

I like the question since I have often been wondering about it myself. I remember reading somewhere at the time they were working on the Book III that Patrick was acctually supposed to appear there but he eventually didn't because they wanted him only for some time and than being murdered anyway.

But what are your ideas for Book III series, following Book II series and being as close to the books as possible ? Mine is as follow (something more or less like this):

It starts immediately after the Book II series. Bent murderes Constance when George is in the South and is on his way home (to be honest, I hate that idea but we want it to be closer to the book). When Orry learns, he leaves Madelaine and the Baby with Charles (and possibly Billy and Brett) and goes to Lehigh Station to comfort George. Charles has his affair with Willa, Madelaine has her problems with Ku-Klux-Klan (no brother Cooper, although. If he has to be family, than only a cousin whose unexpected appearance would be easier to explain). Bent comes to the South and kidnappes Gus. Charles goes after him. When Orry and George learn about that, they follow them. The plot with Ashton would be pretty much the same. Having take revange on Bent, Charles, George and Orry get back home, save Madelaine from Ku-Klux-Klan. Madelaine and Orry invite George with Hope to Carolina for a while so he can get away from it all. THE END

What do you think ? Would that be any better ?

reply

Oh yes, it would have been great if it happened the way you described it.

Which actors would have been in your Part 3 besides the main actors? Would you have still cast Robert Wagner as Cooper?

reply

Much better.

reply

Anything would be better than what was actually filmed. But yes, you have a good idea there. I love stories with happily-ever-after endings.

reply

Book 3 was a terrible read. Of all Jakes’s historical bodice-rippers, that was the worst.
