Stop picking up the murder weapon

This happens in almost every Matlock episode - Person enters a room, sees a dead body, and picks up the murder weapon to leave finger prints and finalize the frame up. Cracks me up every time I see an episode. You'd think common sense would kick in and people would want to avoid leaving finger prints.
