I noticed about halfway through the fourth box set and throughout the rest of the series released by VIZ that there was a small black area at the top of the screen suggesting that they had over-cropped the image when transferring it to a digital format. Does anyone know anything about this?
shareNo, they didn't over-crop, they just forgot to lengthen the ratio. The original aspect ratio of the Japanese boxset is 704x480, instead of the usual 720x480 DVD standard. My only guess as to why this happened is that the first 3 DVD sets were done first, and then Viz was going to stop producing the series (Again), but eventually soldiered on and finished it. In their rush to get it over with, I guess they cut some corners.
