Lovejoy Novels

Hey, I have started reading the Lovejoy Novels by Jonathan Gash, despite Lovejoy commiting GBH a lot, I noticed he either works alone or, in the more modern novels, works with Tinker at least once. Does anyone know if Eric or Lady Jane appear? I doubt Lady Jane appears, but what about young Mr.Catchpole?

kind regards
Grant

No sorry to say that Lady Jane Felsham and Eric Catchpole only appear in the t.v. series.
Also you may note if you read the description of Tinker Dill in the very well writen novels by Jonathan Gash. Tinker is described as a scruffy drunk wearing an ancient army greatcoat.
And not the very dapperly dressed Tinker Dill as portrayed by that truly great Actor Dudly Sutton.
I too came to read the books because of watching the T.V. series and now I very much enjoy both the books and the programmes because those differences.

Finished 'The Judas Pair', there is a character called Jane Felsham in the novels, but she is a fellow dealer and doesn't really have much interaction with Lovejoy. Also, reading Lovejoy has piqued my interest in antiques, so over the summer holidays will try to get a job working in a local dealership or auction house, im training to be an actor so if I don't make it doing that can allways become a dealer lol.

if anyone wants to discuss lovejoy, add me at [email protected]

The first series is closer to the early novels but the program moved away from them after the break and the start of the second series . Much to Mr Gash/Dr Grants chagrin. So much so that I feel he deliberately made Lovejoy even more of a dysfunctional, down at heel loner in the later books that he wrote in the nineteen nineties . The main difference between the TV series and the books being that the television version of Lovejoy was about friendship and the interaction between the principles, the Lovejoy of the books knows lots of people/ eccentric characters, but is a complete loner .
