The VHS version is available through a website call All Things Family under the Wonderworks section.
I wish it were available on DVD, I have the tape version and I am worried that it will get ruined and I'll never see it again.

reply

if you can get the VHS you can have it put on to dvd but maybe if enough people ask for the DVD they will release one.

There is no dvd. I played becky in the 1986 version and I have just
brought an american vhs in two parts and am going to transfer it to
dvd myself. I just hope it is the same as the english version as I remember
having to do some voice overs so the american audience could understand me.
If anyone knows any different about the dvd please post it.
thanks

First of all, great acting job, Natalie. Second of all this is VERY easy to do, transfer it to DVD, because there is NO copyright protection on the two tape set. If you have a mixed DVD-VHS recorder unit you can do it yourself.

I'm afraid the only people with the finances to put this on DVD now would be the Feature Films For Families company. You might try writing them on their website and request they go through the legal process to do so or we will never have a perfectly clear sharp transfer of this superior version of A Little Princess.

I taped my copy off PBS when it was shown in the 80s. Boy, is it getting worn out! My children and I watched it every year when they were little; now they are grown and gone, so I cry when I watch it (about 3 times a year, esp. at Christmas). I'd give anything for a DVD copy.

this is the only version that is any good. I have it on VHS but am afraid to watch it any more because it is almost worn out and I don't know where i can get another copy. I have tried even to get the VHS and I can't find any. I love this movie and book no matter how many times i watch or read the book I cry. I love Nigel Havers in it he is so good. Actually all the actors and actresses are good and I want it on DVD too. I wish they would come out with it. Does anyone know where we can write or e-amil to get them to release it on DVD??

reply

I've got no information on the making of a DVD. Sorry about that! But, I do know how to get a good VHS! It was mentioned in an earlier post. Feature Films For Families has it! Here's their contact info.: 1-800-FAMILY-TV. P.O. Box 572410 Murray, Utah 84157-2410. www.familyfilms.com

I plan on making a dvd copy from my vhs, I used to have the two vhs set but it got to worn and I was able to buy the single vhs version on ebay, so thats where I would look.
If someone really needed a copy on DVD I might be able to send you one if you payed for postage and for the blank dvd. If you want just send me a private message through this web site.

from Feature Films for Families and it is wonderful; certainly, much better than the old tape I had been watching for years (copied from the original PBS show on TV). There are also scenes that were not included in the original broadcast; they also cut out whenever someone says "Good Lord" (i.e., Lavinia and Mr. Carruthers). But it's of little matter---I'm thrilled to pieces to have these tapes, Pt. 1 and Pt. 2. I am still holding out hope for a DVD someday.

Just went through a heavy bid on Ebay to get this version, which is my all time favorite. And like everyone, I'm so afraid of losing the VHS version! I hope that it will be released because this is the most superior version of my favorite story!

You get Superman in a truckstop men's room, you won't need kryptonite to bring him to his knees!"

reply

It's a shame it's STILL not on DVD! Meanwhile the awful 1995 new age version that I literally walked out on in the theater when it came out, gets all the attention. It's soooo unfair!

reply

AMEN! I always tell people this is THE DEFINITIVE version. Amelia Shankley IS Sarah Crewe. And how about those clothes! Why did pretty clothes like Sarah's have to go out of style? I love the rich fabrics and perfect tailoring. (Okay, so I grew up with a seamstress for a mother; what can I say? LOL) They're just too gorgeous! And Sarah is the consummate young lady in this version. She embodies all the graces a victorian young lady should have possessed while the pesky new version screams, "This is a story about a kid!" But Sarah Crewe was so far above all that! I've been looking for the DVD for years! I say we all write one letter a month and drive Feature Films for Families crazy until they give us what we want. LOL Anybody else?

I'm with you!

The only thing is maybe FFFF has tried to get permission, and failed. :(

reply

I've sent an email to FFFF about the release of a DVD, and here's their reply:

"I'm sorry but we have no estimation on when it will be released. Rest assured when it does, we will let all our customers know".

Hope is not lost, they used "when" !

This is available as a download.
Therefore it is quite simple to make a DVD of it.
Just go to Utorrent, and download it from there.
