Lucy on Super Password

Just watching an old episode of Super Password (yes, I have no life... but that's another story), which featured an all-star celebrity week. The show is from 1986 and Lucy was introduced as the "star of Life With Lucy". Ann Dusenberry was her partner. I must say that Lucy was pretty much "out there", often commenting that she couldn't hear the clues, gave VERY poor clues herself, etc.. It was hard to watch at times. I loved Lucy growing up (my golden era for her was the Here's Lucy show of the 60's and 70's). She would have been much better off during this time of her life to have "guest starred" on sitcoms or even a drama or two.

This one was JUST on this morning again! (I guess the loop of Super Password episodes doesn't take long to repeat on GSN.) Lucy was pretty nutty on the show, and didn't seem to understand how to play the bonus round. But during the game, a few of her clues were actually pretty good. I was a little surprised. (Although even just seeing her on a game show like that was unexpected.) I had no idea why Ann Dusenberry was there, until I looked up this show. I don't think they mentioned that she was on Life With Lucy, too. (She and Lucy didn't seem to have much chemistry on Super Password. I'd be interested to see how they did on Life With Lucy.) The other pair? From a, shall we say, slightly more successful '80's sitcom - Betty White and Estelle Getty, from The Golden Girls.

It would of been great to have had Lucy on the episode Brother, Can you spare a Dime? on the Golden Girls. But even though that show was perfect the way it was, Rose talked to the doorman of the hotel in Minneapolis, Blanche talked to the young man with his doctorate, Sophia talked to Ida Perkins. Dorothy could of talked to Lucy. When Lucy was in the movie where she didn't have a home and she was able to stay at a house with a gardeners shed when she got there and she was so happy and she grabbed dirt in her hands and smelled it. I bawled my eyes out. Which she could of been on GG in some kind of capacity.

I actually remember watching this when it originally aired. The one thing that has always stuck in my mind was Lucy's clue for "Plymouth"... "Blank Rock!"
