why did Abby leave?

In one of the last episodes of season 5, Abby was finally offered the partnership she had been talking about for years, and she was even offered it for free...in the next episode, she was gone, and it was hinted that she had accepted a job offer from another firm. But that doesn't strike me as very realistic...it would have been more convincing if she had once again been passed over for partnership, then her leaving McKenzie & Brackman would have been a completely normal reaction...but after being handed partnership on a silver platter???

Its been a few years since I've seen it. But I do remember it being as you mentioned.

In the TV movie if I remember correctly it made it sound if she was passed over again. Something was stated cause I remember thinking the TV film had a couple of mistakes from what the series did

From what I remember, there were two main reasons:

1) She was offered a better financial deal from another firm.

2) Her father has suffered a stroke and was placed in a care facility, making the offer of more money more of a necessity.

Jesus is the Son of God and my Lord and savior. Pretty cool.

You are 100% correct, caladon. That is exactly what happened. I just watched the episode. I believe what happened was they had every intention of bringing back Michelle Greene given that Abby was made a partner. Harry Hamlin, Jimmy Smits, and Susan Dey were all scheduled to leave after season five, with Smits only agreeing to make a few guest appearances in season six. This would leave more airtime and storylines for Abby, who was barely seen in season 5. However, Susan Dye was convinced to stay for another season and this left Abby as the odd character out.

Right on Steve.

I always thought Abby was an important role.

I found her more interesting than the Susan Dey character.

Characters seemed to come and go without much explanation. For example, where did everyone disappear to between season 7 and 8? Then there was the female associate who they only showed in the conference room at the beginning of each episode. What was that about?

It's been years since I've watched it, but the firm broke up initially because of Kuzak coop to take it over with a few other lawyers! ;-/

In this interview, Michele Greene says that a producer who didn't like her personally fired her over the objections of other producers. She was offered to do a few episodes to write her character out, but Greene passed on that.
