Britta Phillips singing Jem LIVE (videos)

One of the most astonishing things about the Jem property is that in all these years, there has never been any footage of Jem herself -- that is, of the singing voice of Jem, Britta Phillips -- performing any Jem songs live.

That has now finally changed.

Britta appeared at the most recent JemCon (which is an exciting fact in and of itself), and -- in a development that makes me rue that I didn't attend -- she sang at least two of the songs. Live.

Mind you, it's not the dream-fantasy of having her perform the songs with a full band, in a concert setting. But after some earnest fan entreaties, she finally did sing "Truly Outrageous" as part of the JemCon karaoke sessions, which the convention opens to all participants.

And during a panel, she voiced a bit of the legendary opening theme:

Her voice is as energetic and exciting as ever (especially the high notes!). She still has the Jem sound. I wish she would do "Music Is Magic," "Twilight in Paris," and so many other Jem classics.

It makes me think: what a dream it would be if, for the next JemCon in 2016, the convention could scrape together the money to fund an actual session by Britta and a live band: a bona fide rock-and-roll live performance of a series of the Jem songs.

In other words, a real Jem concert, the first that has ever been done.

If JemCon had to, it could charge extra for that event. Goodness knows that I would pay to attend it -- and I'm not even a concert goer.

I don't know if there would be any rights issues to work out, but if they can stage the karaoke, then surely they could allow a concert performance.

It would be the most exciting Jem event since the show itself.
