Theme song

It's Garry Shandling's Show
Theme song by Joey Carbone, Garry Shandling, and Alan Zweibel Lyrics

This is the theme to Garry's Show,
The theme to Garry's show.
Garry called me up and asked if I would write his theme song.
I'm almost halfway finished.
How do you like it so far?
How do you like the theme to Garry's Show?

This is the theme to Garry's Show,
The opening theme to Garry's show.
This is the music that you hear as you watch the credits.
We're almost to the part of where I start to whistle.
Then we'll watch "It's Garry Shandling's Show".

This was the theme to Garry Shandling's show.

I loved this show.

My brother-in-law once told me that Garry had to call his Showtime show "The Larry Sanders Show" because Fox owned the rights to the name "Garry Shandling." I think he's wrong but there's an interesting snafu... a guy can't name his show after HIMSELF because another network owns the rights to HIS NAME!

reply

I think part of what was so funny, were the gags that had never been done before. Like Garry talking to the camera in the middle of a scene, and driving that little car around. That show really made me appreciate Shandling's talent.

George Burns did the talking to the camera bit long before Shandling, on his sitcom in the 1950's.

reply

True, but in George's show, only George is aware of the audience. In Shandling's show everyone is aware of the audience and quite often the audience is part of the sitcom. That was relatively new at the time. So Shandling built on Burns' show and took it further.

how do i get the theme song in audio

reply

Here's one way http://www.emusic.com/album/10590/10590382.html

Thank you so much for writing the song out! Even now, many years later, that song pops into my head at odd times and I just laugh and sing it to myself.

It's gotta be the funniest theme song ever!

reply

No sweat!

reply

That was, quite possibly, the greatest theme song ever.

This show was just great, the one when Howard, I believe, from Mayberry moved in was a fantastic one that comes to mind.

reply

Have they got this series on DVD now?

reply

is there anywhere to download the theme song without signing up for anything?

i'm pretty sure i watched this when it was syndicated on cable when i was younger and enjoyed it. i seem to remember bits of the theme song.

reply

I remember one episode where he had the Turtles do the theme song and at the part where the whistling usually starts, they break into the "Baa baa baa" from their song "So Happy Together".
Does anyone else remember that?

"Ah, arrogance and stupidity all in the same package. How efficient of you!"

reply

I vaguely remember that.

I always thought the theme song was the best part of the show. Often, that was the only part I watched.

reply

😄

reply

Way back in the 80s when this was on and up until now I always thought the theme song was sung by Gary Neumann the guy that had the hit, "Short People Got No Reason To Live" and the theme song to Monk. Sounds like the same voice!

reply

FYI, the singer's name is Randy Newman, not "Gary Neumann".

Los Angeles musician Bill Lynch sang "This is the Theme to Garry's Show".

reply

but it does sound like the same guy right?

reply

Yeah, the voices are similar.
