Season 4 and Phoebe

Anyone else not care (at all) for Phoebe in Season 4? I'm just finishing up the last of the DVDs in the new release and, although I keep trying to give her a chance, to me she really ads nothing at all to the show.

In the long run, it doesn't really matter to me, because G.S. the rest of the usual crew are more than enough to keep things moving smoothly, but the casting of Harper as Phoebe in S4 still puzzles me. And I don't really see any chemistry between Shandling and Harper on the show.

Opinions?

I just finished the first DVD of season 4, and the Phoebe character is a disaster. The only episode that was even remotely funny was the last one, where they went to the old comic's house for dinner and Garry/Phoebe dreamed of a life together.

Hope it gets better with the next disc.

I got the impression they didn't know how to write for her.According to one of the commentaries having Garry marry was one of the conditions Fox wanted when picking up the series. She has her moments,my favourite being the Honeymoon episode. I was really impressed by her rendition of YMCA in the final episode. She seemed to be the best singer in the cast.

I didn't care for the character of Phoebe at all. The overall quality of the show went down in season 4. There were a few good episodes, but the series seemed to have run its course. - jmho

Didn't care for the character - seem to be the beginning of the end

Poor casting decision. Jessica Harper didn't really add any depth to the character. I blame her for making Phoebe Bass so dull and lifeless. Probably part of the reason why her acting career didn't take off.

At least she has a great set of pipes.
