I heard this was one of the better 80s sitcoms.

I watched it a little bit as a kid, but recall very little.

I never heard of it before ...

I remember it being pretty good. It was sad that it just wasn't the same without Hesseman.

reply

I remember it and I didn't think it was very good. It has a young Robin Givens in it and she was very very attractive, and Hessman was known for WKRP. That's about it.

Wasn´t it this just an 80´s ripoff of Welcome Back Kotter? I remember they aired re-runs in the 90s. Didn´t care for it.

reply

Well it was a twist on Welcome Back Kotter.. Kotter was a teacher with a class of idiots, Head of the Class was a teacher with a class of gifted kids. So not really a rip off as much as a twist. It was an okay show, but once the lead left it went downhill quickly. The real problem is with it was the same problem AP Bio is having now, when you have a series based on kids in a class, you need to shuffle in a whole new group of kids each year, but they didn't do that so by the time it was ending the "kids" just didn't look like kids anymore so it became really silly... at least with Kotter the students were idiots so yo ucould accept that they might have to spend year after year trying to pass a class... but gifted kids shouldbe cruising through a class.

Disliked it the principal was always kissing their ass. Most of the kids were smart but had no idea how the real world worked.

reply

Sadly at that time, it would have been the norm for a principal to kiss the gifted kids asses. The schools then as today get more allocated to them for gifted kids than normal kids, and the gifted kids performance on standardized tests would help to boost a school's report card both of those things were dependent on the school keeping the gifted kids and not having them leave for a private school or to be home schooled.

reply

agree w that/ Was in special ed for one class regular for most and honors for one in high school---and principal of most of the schools rarely talked to anybody except the honors.

I think it's why I dislike most of this show--except Eric (the guy who had to fight to get in). I could relate to him.

Eric is probably Horshack's kid (the smart sweathog).

reply

It isn't. But it was a show that had a massive following. It was a hit even after it's lead star left.

reply

The best 80's show was Family Ties--Michael J Fox made tons of block buster movies and still stayed with the series.

Go up and down the street and ask people who Michael J Fox is--and most people even today will instantly know who he is. Even if they never originally saw an episode of Family Ties or never had his poster up in their rooms. etc.

Most people do not know who the cast of this series is.

reply

Someone lied to you.

I am starting to think that we just watched shows in the 80's because there was nothing on at that time slot to compete with it.

It airs on Antenna TV and I tried to watch an episode and it was just bad.

reply

That was true, nothing else on.
But for the 80s this was a fun show.
