Who would you cast for a live-action version?

Seeing the good treatment that other SF/superhero series have gotten on the big screen in recent years (think X-MEN and SPIDER-MAN in particular), I think a big budget movie version of GR could be great - provided it was well written, directed and cast! The casting would be particularly important, as the original characters were all themselves pretty well-rounded. My picks would be as follows:-

Zachary Foxx – Tommy Lee Jones
Shane Gooseman – Hugh Jackman
Doc Hartford – Jamie Foxx
Nikko – Natalie Bassingthwaighte
Commander Walsh – Sean Connery/Robert Loggia/Rip Torn
Waldo – Ian McKellan
Zozo – Verne Troyer
Aliza Foxx – Jodie Foster
Queen of the Crown – Tilda Swinton
Ryker Killbane – Eric Bana
Jackie Subtract – Bill Nighy
Mogul – William H. Macy
Larry – Deep Roy
Nimrod – Paul Giamatti

I realize that the actors I’ve chosen for the Rangers are all a little bit to somewhat older than their original animated counterparts (in the series, Goose is only meant to be 19), but that would probably happen anyway in a big-screen version. And even though he’s about twice as old as his animated counterpart, I think Tommy Lee Jones would be perfect for Zachary Foxx; he has exactly the same sort of commanding authority as an actor as Foxx had as a character in the series, and he even sounds a lot like him!

Hugh Jackman and Jamie Foxx, in my opinion, would fit the bill pretty well as Goose and Doc – I can just imagine Jackman bringing something similar to the sort of growl he used for Wolverine to the part of Goose, and I do think Foxx (Jamie, that is!) could do a great Doc Hartford; maybe I’m wrong, but I can just picture him saying Doc’s old line “Yeah, mah Goose*man*!”.

You guys in the U.S. probably won’t know Natalie Bassingthwaighte – down here in Australia, she’s an actress on the TV soap “Neighbours” and lead vocalist with the rock/dance band Rogue Traders. Don’t let the fact that she stars in a soap opera throw you – she is quite a talented young actress, and very sexy and beautiful. She’d just need to dye her hair or wear a red wig and I could really see her doing Nikko – I just think she’d fit the part very well.

As for the rest of the characters – well, I had a little trouble with Commander Walsh and the Queen; I do think Tilda Swinton would be great as the Queen, although maybe I’m just thinking too much of her role as the White Witch in the recent “Narnia” movie. And although Rip Torn would be my first pick for Walsh, he has already played Jones’s boss/commanding officer in the “Men In Black” film series, and so some might want to avoid using him for fear of drawing similarities to those movies.

The rest of the actors I’ve listed would, I think, all be good in their given roles, although they are by no means the only ones I could see playing them – with the exception of Bill Nighy. I think he would make an utterly PERFECT Jackie Subtract!
