Episode 6 Alternate Closing?

I just finished watching the series yesterday and watched the brilliant, if not hugely symbolic ending. When I was done I went to the special features on the DVD and saw there was an 'Episode 6 Alternate Closing'. Yet when I watched it the alternate closing was almost identical, bar the light being slightly brighter. Am I missing something here? I can't seem to find any differences between the episode's ending and the alternate ending.

I have the BBC Classic Drama DVD by the way.

And I'm not talking about the original tree proposal. This wasn't that.

It is ridiculous to speak of an 'alternate ending' here. I have just played them side by side. The 'alternate' ending picks up where Craven starts to cry 'Emma!', is zoomed out against the silhouette of the rock, and then we see images of the sea and of a snowy rock where black flowers rise up from the snow, with a zoom-in on a particular flower.

That part is virtually the same in the original tv movie. I only see a somewhat earlier fade from the last 'sea image' to the 'snowy rock' part - half a second maybe. You are right that the lighting (or should I say: colourization) is somewhat different - the 'alternate' vid is a bit brighter and a bit sharper.

The only 'real' difference is in the titles. There is a different categorization and a different order. Wow. And the 'alternate' ending fades to a black background at some point. Wow wow.

That is all. Totally stupid to call this an 'alternate ending', because the film ends exactly the same.

It must have been a commercial trick to lure in more buyers of the DVD set. As if we wouldn't have bought it for the quality of this great movie itself.
