age

How much older is Julia than Suzanne? I wouldn't say Julia looks old but I would say about 15 years, that seem like a lot.

You're mention of a 15 year age gap between them is actually pretty spot on from a real world perspective. Dixie Carter was born in 1939 and Delta Burke in 1956 putting the actresses about 17 years apart in actual age. As far as the characters age gap, that's anyone's guess.

It's certainly possible the writers intended the actual ages of Crater and Burke to reflect the ages of the Sugarbaker sisters. That would basically mean Suzanne would have been born right around the time Julia was about to go off to college. It's plausible but I would wager the writers meant for that gap to be somewhat shorter. Seventeen years is a long time. If I had to go out on a limb and guesstimate I would say, from a character standpoint anyway, that Julia is meant to be 8-10 years older than Suzanne. I don't think that Julia, or Dixie Carter for that matter, looks THAT much older than Suzanne/Delta Burke.

But since the viewer is never explicitly told it's purely speculative.

I am inclined to agree with Aztec. I used to be hooked on this show, taped every episode and watched them over the years. I can't recall a single episode where Julia's age is mentioned, but Suzanne turned 30 (she insisted 29) in the first season's episode, "The Beauty Contest." In that episode, Julia produced a birth certificate for Suzanne that showed no birth year on it. Julia says hers was also omitted. This was a gift their mother, Perky, arranged for them.

Julia is supposed to be born in 1944, she is 12 years old than Suzanne whose age is referenced not only as 30 in 1986 (the same age as Delta Burke), but also a few times throughout the series. She is also past 40 when the series begins because Suzanne claims she has a 40th birthday party every year.
