Designing Women actors on stage.

I just saw Julia Duffy last night in a play called "Rancho Viejo" at Playwrights Horizons Off Broadway. She is still as cute as ever, and there is a third act blow-up between her and Mare Winningham which is pure "Designing Women" bitchiness at its most fun, yet filled with the equal amount of understanding as to why some women become bitchy or bitches or just plain evil. While she might not have gotten critical acclaim for her "DW" season, I enjoyed it (ironically its highest season in the ratings), and often, she could be quite bitingly funny. ("Julia, he's the gayest man I've ever seen in my life! Julia!")

I couldn't help but flash back to the episode where she is stood up and Marla Maples shows up to see her, leading to Julia's call to the Trumpster himself. (Shows how not much has changed in over 20 years!) Also, where Mary Jo wears the t-shirt condemning Supreme Court Justice Judge Clarence Thomas while Alison wears the "She lied" shirt towards Anita Hill. Funny, I only vaguely remember her as Stefanie on "Newhart" yet watched "DW" religiously even during its last 2 seasons. Also ironically, the only other two "DW" stars I've seen on stage were Delta Burke (in "Steel Magnolias" as Truvy and in "Thoroughly Modern Millie" as Mrs. Meers) and Judith Ivey (in "Follies" and "The Heiress").

"Great theater makes you smile. Outstanding theater may make you weep."
