Series just wasn't funny

I think it was Karl Howman's fault.

He just didn't have that star quality like David Jason or other comedy actors.

Howman always seemd like a third rate choice. And where did he go after that? Nowhere, except the occasional appearance on Casualty...

You mean that you didn't find it funny. That's very different from something not being funny.

Karl Howman keeps on working, that's more than a lot of actors manage. As well as his other TV work he's done feature films, radio shows and yes, adverts. Check his credit list here on the IMDb

I thought Karl Howman was a great choice. I found the show to be funny and well written. One of the best shows ever made in my opinion.

Jacko is a very lovable and relatable, so in same ways we can see a bit of ourselves in him, well I do at least. So we enjoy watching him on his adventures through his life.

A Brush strokes marathon sound like fun, Are you watching them on DVD? or off the Internet? Series 3-4 was just released to DVD a few months ago, which I think its great.

Gary Waldhorn (Lionel) continued to do very well after his death in "Brush Strokes". Elizabeth Counsell (Elizabeth) also did quite well.

Mike Walling (Eric) had long runs in "Harry's Mad", "Coronation Street" and various other TV series

Kim Thomson (Lesley #1) had a long run in "Emmerdale"

Many of the "Brush Strokes" cast went on to do some more great work

I'm actually about half way through at the moment, I'm just about to start rewatching series 4. It's such a great show, one of those rare shows where I could watch series 1-5 then straight away start from the beginning and watch all over again.

It was amiable enough and watchable but not laugh out loud.

Its that man again!!

It was like the series Shelley; Either you liked it, or you didn't. I quite liked BS.

Well, I disagree but respect your right to that opinion. It was a hugely popular show that ran for 6 series. While I think it's fair to say that Howman was blessed with a great writing team and a superb supporting cast list, his comedic affability kept the viewing figures high each year.
