Why was the last episode broadcast two years after it was made?

Does anyone know why the very last episode on the final series "Thieves like us"
was broadcast 1st May 1995 when the series finished in 1992? At the end credits on this episode it is clear it was made in 1992.

I looked at the show's Wikipeadia page and could not find a reason. The one reason I can think of is some big event played havoc with the programming thereby causing the episode not to be shown for quite a long time.
