Now Showing on Drama Channel in UK

Boon is back (well sort of).

The first series is currently being shown on the Drama Channel (SKY Channel 158) on weekdays 8am + 3pm. It's the first time in a while that Boon has been shown on UK television, hopefully the Drama Channel will air every episode of this excellent TV programme.

Agreed one of the 80s best series.

The 'East Midlands' Accent.

Series 4, 5, 6 and 7 were based in and around 'Nottingham' (My Home City) in the 'East Midlands'. This area consists of three Counties which are Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire and Derbyshire which have basically the same accent which is quite different to a Yorkshire accent. The East Midlands is quite a sizeable chunk of England, you might think but Not Once, even from actors playing small roles as Locals, was there a shred of our distinctive accent uttered by any of them.

It is as well there are Film Makers like 'Shane Meadows' who pay attention to important detail like Sourcing Local Actors or getting 'Non-Local' Actors to learn the local regional accent and then applying it in any Regional Film Projects they are involved in so as to sound Credible to an audience.

For example... 'Robert Carlisle' learned and delivered a very passable 'Sheffield' Accent (for a Scotsman) to play his role in 'The Full Monty'

Regional Accents should be part and parcel of a professional Actors Craft and not to study for the role they are to play or be required to study them by the Project Team is as unrealistic as the London Based 'East Enders' TV Series with all the Actors using 'Newcastle' accents. That's how daft, series 4 to 7 of 'Boon' sounded to the Millions of people who live in the 'East Midlands'.

Did the 'Boon' Series Project Team think that Millions of people from the 'East Midlands' wouldn't notice?

Veteran Actor 'Sir Tom Courtenay' pointed out the fact to the Director of 'The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner' that all the actors playing Nottingham based characters (apart from him) were using different Regional accents, none of which sounded anything like the 'Locals' did. He was right to point out the obvious.
