Why no ALF balloon in the Macys day parade?

I am very surprised that from 1987-1989 there was no ALF balloon featured in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. However in 1989, he co-hosted. lol. There are clips on Youtube of him talking about the Garfield balloon, calling it giant Feline Mignon. That was my first Thanksgiving when I was about 6 months old, and it was kind of special because it was the only parade in history where there was a blizzard (well, a few inches of snow) AND with ALF as a cohost. Maybe Alien Productions/Paul Fusco wouldn't put up the money for a balloon, and having ALF be a cohost was some sort of alternative. There was a Bart Simpson balloon less than a year after the Simpsons first aired!

That's a good question that I never really thought about but ALF was certainly popular enough to have had a balloon.

They had ALF set up in the windows of the Macy's building, in the stairwell. I went there in 2013 the day after the parade and saw that that section was stairs. I love how they had him in a superimposed iris as the balloons went by--wish they still did that today. But at the end he "kissed" Willard and Sandy (I think Sandy Duncan was a cohost as well) while it still showed him in the iris. Very silly ... I don't see how they couldn't quickly bring the puppet down at the end during a commercial.
