The Decomposing Melody

The melody that is played on the soundtrack as the fruit and animal corpses decompose sounded very familiar, does anyone know the name of what the original song is?

reply

I imagine that it's part of the film's original score since the majority of the score had the same sort of sound. I've yet to stumble onto a copy of the soundtrack, so I can't say for sure... but there was a soundtrack released (sans "Teddy Bears' Picnic," so if it wasn't composed specifically for the film, chances are that it's not on the album).

I'd need to check the film to figure out exactly which track you were referring to (I think it's called "Angelfish Decay") but I found the soundtrack at walmart.com with some preview clips...

It´s Nyman´s original music, so if it sounded familiar to you...er... you must have heard it somewhere! The composition have three variations called Angelfish Decay, Swan Rot and L´escargot. Buy the soundtrack!

clint mansell definitely borrowed some of its motifs for the all-too-famous REQUIEM $ A DREAM cum Lord of the Rings score.

Just an observation, but dontcha think?

reply

The track on the CD is called Swan Rot.

This music has been used for a number of TV advertisments since (can't recall any of them specifically) so you may have heard it there.

Also, Nyman has a habit of 'adapting' themes from other composers' work (notably Purcell in "Draughtsman's Contract" so he may well have pinched it from elsewhere.

I used to want to change the world. Now I just want to leave the room with a little dignity.

i watched this for the first time in years... noticed the same thing in regards to "requiem for a dream."

also, is it just me or has wes anderson spent his whole career ripping this movie off?

reply

No, Wes Anderson's spent his whole career ripping Francois Truffaut off. In an entirely charming and entertaining way, I might add.
