What does Noughts Mean?

Just wondering. And why are there two? I own the film but have yet to watch it.

the letter 'O'

zed is 'z'

so it spells 'ZOO'!

...and in the film O is the initial of the two main characters, Oliver and Oswald. The extent to which these two characters represent zeros is left up to the viewer to decide. Certainly having lost their wives they are wrestling with emptiness....

There's also some reference to eggs...

OK, zeros are Oliver and Oswald, I realized that myself. But who is Zed? And do not tell me "Zed is dead, baby!":)

Z (pronounced Zed rather than "Zee" in England) is the last letter of the alphabet, so perhaps Death? The alphabet is a motif throughout the film*, "A is for...", Venus meets her demise (we assume) with the Zebra at the end... The word "Zed" has a kind of finality to it, don't you think?

*Compare with "Drowning by Numbers" where 1-100 plays the same role as the alphabet in this film.

Alba Bewick is Zed. she refers to herself as Zed after she tells Oliver and Oswald that she is the last at l'Escargot, her family estate. "A zed and two noughts. What a zoo!"

Not understanding the title of a film you have not seen is quite a common experience. Did you post this so you would not have to bother?
I'm just curious.

"Naught" can also connote evil, or naughty business.

Why are there two? This is one of the core questions this movie asks. Anomality is a strong part of the movie, so is symmetry. Whatching the moviw, you will find out there is just one o, but they were seperated.

Omega by the way is the Z of the greek alphabet.

And a zoo certainly is the end of evolution.
