TV edits

I saw this film on ITV the other day and the scene at the start involving Bobster's restaurant freakout was horribly mangled.... You saw him get the dart in the neck then it jumped to him running down the street gibbering.
The fire scene in his flat was also edited I believe.
Too frightning for the kiddies? It was 1 in the afternoon. V. disappointed I was. Stopped recording it in disgust.
Does the dvd present the film uncensored?

Oh yeh. The scene in the 'London Graveyard'(it only has one) was also cut I believe. I haven't seen an untampered version since I was about 10 so I'm having to rely on memory.

I'd never seen the film until I saw it on ITV and I didn't have any complaints. There was nothing in it that didn't make sense or anything (except hiccups in the script - ie Watson being called "Dr. Watson" at least twice, but that's not what you mean.)

They first aired the proper version on bbc1 during christmas of 89 or 90 i think, after 9 pm!! =)

Bullshyt MR hang-man!!

It was shown uncut at about 4pm on BBC2 about ten years ago. I still have that copy of tape somewhere but it suffered from some sound problems - typical! The last two times it has been shown was on ITV and they cut it shreads in places. Personally I don't see the need, what with it being a PG rated film.

Anyway, I now have the dvd version which is blissfully uncut. Shame it had no special features though!

The movie is rated PG-13, not PG. There's a big difference,
as far as some parents are concerned. There are many scenes
in the movie that are disturbing and/or scary for a younger
viewer. I was about 13 when I first saw it on video.

reply

It was a PG in Britain. Obviously our under 13's can take it.

reply

It was a PG in Britain cos 12's didn't exist til 1989 with Batman. Otherwise it would have been a 15 and that would be silly.

reply

i have Batman 1989 on vhs and it is a 15 still. same rating on Batman Returns. Are you sure it was that long ago? i coulda sworn it was later

reply

yeah batman was a 12 in the cinema.

The scenes are deleted quite a lot. i have the dvd and they are kinda scary for kids. The one at the start has a pheasants head burst out of its dead carcass and attack the old fella. niiiice.

Showing on Film4 right now (6.50pm) apparently uncut. (The 'pheasant-bursting' scene you mention above appears to be intact).

YSH is good fun, though reminded of Indiana Jones especially the live mummification temple moment.
