Spielberg Ego Trip...

For that is what this is. Down to picking a actor for Y.S.H. that bore a passing resemblance too Spielberg himself. A love interest, killed, that looked like his first wife Amy Irving and a ineffectial stooge in Watson. Something he believed most of his contemporaries were.

This film did not pass our 15" test. Looked at my watch 15" into it and could not wait till it ended. Recently seen on cable and age has not improved our opinion. IMDB****Four Stars. Only saving grace, initial, if primative CGI effects which ILM would continue to develope and made the films of today possible.

So much safer to be a critic. Please give us the IMDB link to your last directorial effort. Oh, and if you strain for it, you can make the case for any comparison. ...yet you still failed.

reply

You're really grasping at possibly invented psychology there by claiming that the portrayal of Watson is a metaphor for Speilberg's contemporaries. The film is likeable even to those who don't normally care for Sherlock Holmes who can, or would like to, associate with such childhood days or would like to associate with having an upper middle/upper class education in such mysteriously exciting settings.

Picnic10; If you liked it fine. Just shows that there is something too appeal to the lowest common denominator.

reply

Even if it can appeal to a lowest common denominator, that doesn't mean that it doesn't also appear to some more refined tastes. The lowest common denominator would surely be put off by the elocution of the narrator and the drama of the O Fortuna-like chant Waxing Elizabeth.

Which children's films do you like by comparison? Young Sherlock Holmes is far greater than the pseudo Lord of the Rings individualist destiny tripe of Harry Potter.

Dude... with a username like "Xerxes", I guess that makes you a fan of the movie 300. You ARE the lowest common denominator. 

iceboxMovies; If you were a little a bit clever you would know our spelling has nothing to do with the Persian Emperor. Dealing with defectives like you does not take much time, just a Historical backround!

Why would I want to be some type of butcher's knife?

Are you threatening me?

reply

IceBoxMovies; No, how could I do that anyway? Did not understand your 'cleaver' remark.
