where they get together in the field = gold

Call me an old sentimentalist, but the scene where Rachel and John finally embrace near the end is a great moment, really moving stuff. It's the acting, Magillis in particular acts it just ecstatically and I totally bought it. Not normally the kind of thing I'd respond to, but there you go. What on earth happened to her anyway, this and Top Gun are the only two things I know her in.

I love the lighting in that scene. That sort of greyish light that you get late in the day after the sun has gone down. I think it added a certain sensuality to the moment. "They met by twilight..."

Don't forget Kelly McGillis also starred in "The Accused" (1988) with Jodie Foster, but after that she seemed to disappear from big projects and was seen mostly in obscure television productions. The last thing I saw her in was season 5 of "The L Word" in 2008, which was quite apt since she recently "came out". She's a great actress but she was slumming in utter garbage like "Top Gun".

Yes! I totaly agree! That love scene is one of my favorites, and it is quite beautiful

For my money this is the best, and one of the few at all attractive, snog scene(s) in the whole of cinema.

I recently read a newspaper profile which revealed that she has had a long battle with alcohol and drugs and more or less gave up acting. Tragic, because she was so good. Top Gun was an obscene waste of her talent.
