Should have won the Best Picture Oscar in 1985.

Although it's not as good as The Color Purple, or the un-nominated Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters, Ran, Brazil, or Come and See.

1985 was many "flub years" for Oscar. All four of the other Best Picture nominees that year (with the possible exception of Kiss of the Spider Woman) were better than Out of Africa. But O of A was a movie, like The English Patient, that the Academy loves - epic love stories.

Dude means nice guy. Dude means a regular sort of person.
