Minor Spoiler: Coffee scene

Towards the middle of the film when Harrison Ford is with the Amish he takes a sip of coffee and says, "now that's great coffee, honey," and they look at him weird. After a brief moment he gestures never mind.

But what was he imitating or meaning? It sounded like he was referring to some coffee commercial.

He was imitating a Folger's commercial of the time. He had auditioned for that commercial and didn't get the job, so there was a bit of backstory there.

Thanks. ;-)

That's exactly what he says it was in the movie during that scene.

He was trying to make a connection, using something so everyday in his world as a TV commercial. But the response showed it was totally alien to their world. It highlighted the gulf between the two societies.

An excellent scene.

He was referring to a coffee commercial. He alone was laughing because the Amish, without television, didn’t get the reference.

The point was to highlight that he wasn’t one of them.
