WB financed by a religious group?

Back when WB1 and Wb2 came out, I remember reading something about the series being financed/consulted/whatever by some religious organization to serve as a deterrent to teens from toying with the occult, which was becoming more common what with all the metal bands and *shudder* dungeons & dragons. Anyone know anything about that?

It seems unlikely, I know, but to be honest, the identical plots and especially the near-identical dialogue really do seem like attempts at scare education, just like all the classic 1960s traffic safety films.
