Dated, Cheesey, and Lame

It's too bad, because the idea is good. The execution is another thing all together. The acting was absolutley dismal. Tawny Kitean was eye candy in the Whitesnake videos, and still looks good here, but this is supposed to be a horror movie! I was LOL near the end of the movie when the spirit had taken possession of her...please, scariest movie ever as some reviewers have posted??? I suppose if you place it next to the MJ Thriller video, maybe. This whole exercise reflected the 80's MTV era, not to mention the hair styles. The two male leads hair was never out of place (mousse overload, I guess). Don't get me wrong, the 80's was to me what the 50's was to my parents. Unfortunately this movie in my opinion did not age well. I have no problem with Cheese, like Leprechaun, but this movie took itself too seriously. A remake, with a director who understands horror would be highly recommended and welcome...maybe the spirits can spell...K.U.B.R.I.C.K and ask him if he's willing to direct from the "other" side.

LOL I thought the movie was pretty good actually. I don't think the movie was scary as in, "Oh, I'll never sleep with the lights off again.." but more in a way that will make people afraid of Ouija boards. I know I was afraid to have the one I had in my house after I saw this movie. Then again, I was only about 12 or 13 when this movie came out, so maybe that's why it was "scary" for me. I look at it now and do exactly what you did...laugh. LOL

I have to admit, the Ouija board thing does give me the creeps too. If you remember, Regan in the Exorcist was playing with one in the beginning of the movie and that gave me the willies. So, I'll never own or even play with one! With remaking older movies being the trend, I still would like to see this film redone, because the subject matter has potential.

reply

I'm not in the least afraid of Ouija boards because I've used them many times and no, my eyes didn't turn red, lol! It's just an advertising gimmick.

I don't think this movie is lame, DATED? well...duh, it's from the 80's LOL what you expect?, this is a very underrated 80's horror flick, great 80's music (love the music in the begining), hair, clothes etc.

Yeah, I regard it a little like I regard 'The Lost Boys'.. It might have scared some people at the time but then times change and what we have to look back on is a lot of cheesey 80's fun and a pretty creepy vibe. It is pretty good movie considering half the budget probably went on getting Tawney Kitaen to feature nude in the shower.

I bet your driving license is clean, mine's diiiirrrty!!!

The Lost Boys wasn't supposed to be scary. It was a post-Brat-Pack parody. Or at the very least, it was MEANT to be campy/cheesy.

Dated and chessy, yeah, lame no, find a new angle cause no one is falling for that.

Am I the only one really intrigued as to how the 50s was to your parents?

You are an idiot if you think yet another pointless remake is in order.
I like this movie and the soundtrack.

I'll agree with outdated and cheesey. But that was part of the fun for me! I just love cheesey old horror films!

"Hey! Ladies! That was fun!"

Still get the DVD out every now and then and watch it for a laugh.

just so long as you people ASKING for remakes of 80's movies aren't the same people constantly crying about them on other boards, right?

I will admit This film was never scary to me. It was a lot of fun to rent it in the video store. This film was a favorite for me. sure it was a bit cheesy but it was fun. I really liked the music. The 80's made a lot of fun films.
