Is there somebody who knows if this movie is also available on DVD? I am very glad if I hear something about this.
Its not available on dvd yet it seems. But I am hoping that it comes out soon and in wide screen! Does anybody know when that will be?

shareIf you search for it on Amazon.com, they have a listing for the DVD... but it's not in print yet. You can give them your email address and they'll email you when it's going to be released. It says you're "voting" for it to be released if you give them your email address, apparently they tell the studios about it if alot of people are interested.

Not sure when the release date will be - but it's coming!
Well, when an out of print film (or TV series for that matter) get's put on a DVD press it takes time. Unlike a new movie or series which can go into DVD pressing at the same time it hit the theater or TV and within 6 months at most comes onto the shelves. Maverick the TV series started it's DVD run last year, but has yet to make it to the shelf and (according to WB) wont until early 2005. Thats about close to a 2 year wait.
I've had White Nights on VCD (converted to DVD myself) for about 4 years now. I got sick of waiting. The quality is top notch for VCD (meaning no artifacts or jaggies) but you have to deal with stero only. If you dont want to wait another year or more then do a google for White Nights VCD. It shouldnt be more than $10.00 and they are legit copies (normally imported from S. Korea or some asian country) and will play on any DVD player. The only problems are the lack of surround sound and it's two disc's (makes me wish I had just bout it on Laser Disc instead, but you cant find LD of it anymore).
I've been waiting and waiting and waiting for this great movie to come to DVD also. I just saw that one of it's fans also checked on Border's site about 6 months ago when it said it was coming out soon; and it still hasn't. It is ridiculous already. And I was sure that when the great Gregory Hines passed away last year, that the studio would have released it for Christmas, but, of course, they didn't. Hopefully, it will be released soon. An customer.

I'm not a shill for Comcast, but if you have their On Demand service, White Nights is currently on the Free Movies section--I was at least able to get a decent VCR tape and, if you have a TIVO, you may be able to do even better. ;^)

I received it yesterday. It's not cheap (about 50 dollars incl. shipping) but it's good.
Sounds like the region-2 Japanese is the only available one - with the documentary too. Price is steep, like many Japanese BAREBONE releases, unreasonably priced.

Is the video sharp (not like a tape or LD transfer) and free of artifacts? Sound I assume is okay because it's 5.1 mix. For a movie this old, any real 5.1 is great.
E-bay is my friend! There are 9 copies on DVD for sale, for a lot less than 50 bucks. took awhile for them have them for sale, and I am not sure that there will be more, but worth a shot.

Hey everyone, I was searching for "White Nights" on DVD for my mom. She and I both saw it when it came out back in '85. I was 11-years-old at the time, and I loved it.
It really SHOCKS me that this still hasn't been released on DVD here in the U.S. First of all, Gregory Hines was always underrated as an actor. Secondly, since he died(very saddened by that) recently you'd think they would have gotten this out on DVD.
Another thing to consider is that Mikhail Baryshnikov recently had a brief starring role in the VERY HIGHLY RATED "Sex and the City" series on HBO. You'd think that Sony Pictures would acknowledge that and get the DVD of "White Nights" out. I'd bet that some of the "Sex and the City" loyal fans would buy "White Nights" because of that alone.
Anyway, here's to hoping it comes out soon.
