When was this film made?

The film was released in September of 1985, but I believe it was made in 1980. Anyone know for sure?

reply

I am not sure on when it was made but it had a lot of actors in the movie though because I went through the whole cast and was surprised with some of the people that were in the movie.

One of them was a great comedian and was on The Dick Van Dyke Show who was funny as hell!

At first I didn't really think much about that date until you brought it up. I could have sworn it said 1982 during the opening credits.

Of course even if the credits say 1982 that doesn't necessarily mean that 1985 is incorrect. The film might have been back in 1982 and then sat on the shelf for a few years making 1985 valid.

reply

That is totally possible on your theory thatyou have blakeman422. They might have placed the movie onto the shelf and then a few years later put it out. That does happen and I have seen it happen to movies too.

OOPS! Sorry for the long delay with a response Robebase. Anyway, I quickly scanned through the movie and near the end of the credits it does say MCMLXXXII (i.e. 1982). So it must have sat on the shelf for a little bit.

reply

That is cool man. I understand that you might have been busy and could not respond back to my question or response. Yeah the way that it looks you are correct that it must have sat on the shelf for a while.

That is not good if it did that because what if at the time when they could have released it that it would have been really popular instead of being released 3 years later you know.

How true RobBase! Had it been released back in 1982, it might have rode the wave of popularity established by the Airplane movies. Unfortunately by 1985 most of these type of comedies seemed to have died until a few years later when Naked Gun and hot shots made it popular again. I guess.

reply

Thanks! I am glad you agree with me on that! Yes it might have been popular in 1982 had it been released at that time instead of 1985. Yes I agree that the Airplane movies established the comedies that were hilarious to laugh at during the late 70's and early 80's. Yes Naked Gun and Hot Shots did rekindle and made it popular once again.

Plus, you have to remember also the National Lampoon movies as well during the 90's also made it popular again.

How true about the national lampoon comedies. I just remembered National Lampoon Class Reunion released back in 1982 (I think). The 90s also had Loaded Weapon 1 and I know there were a few others which I forget right at this moment.

Of course now we have the epic movie franchise for better or worse. Probably all the better for Carmen Electra as she will always have work. LOL! Late this month if you haven't already seen the trailers, they will be releasing the next in the series, Disaster movie!!

reply

One of my favorite movies of the 90's is called National Lampoon's Senior Trip! That is one of my favorite and there are others as well that they made in the 90's.

You are so correct about Epic movie franchise for better or worse. The way it looks like Carmen Electra will always have work due to her appearing in those spoof movies. LOL Yes I have seen already about Disaster movie!

No surprise but just recently Epic movie got a razzie nomination. I know the series isn't anywhere near Oscar worthy but there are definitely more worthy contenders for total crap.

reply

Well I am sorry to hear that you did not like the movie. I enjoyed watching the movie.

Actually I liked the movie Rob. I was just being a bit sarcastic with the Oscar comment. The thing I never understood is that the whole epic series has always been about silly (often crude) humor with a touch of gross out gags also thrown into the mix. It's not like the producers were trying to pass them off as anything else and yet people consistently vote these films in the razzies as if they were supposed to be the next "Gone with The Wind". Jerry Lewis, who I hear is being honored with an Oscar this year, would certainly understand the situation as his comedies were often looked upon as low brow for decades.

reply

I am glad that you liked the movie because it was a very good movie to watch with a lot of great actors in it. I sort of figured you were being sarcastic with your Oscar comment. For some reason people like this film and view it as a classic with the big name stars that appeared in this film. I loved watching a lot of Jerry Lewis films and I am glad that he will be honored at the Oscars this year for all of his film work that he had done for a long time now. I know some people may not understand his form of comedy but I do becasue I remember growing up watching his films on the weekend along with other legendary comedic legends.

A lot of those films that he did is hard to see anymore because a lot of these networks have changed and no longer want to show any classic movies. If you happen to find a network that does then it is a very good network then.

If you have Turner Network (and maybe AMC), you should be able to catch many of Jerry's classics since I think they are giving him a tribute this month.

reply

COOL! I wish I still had Turner Network and AMC but I do not because my Dish Network is shut off by AT&T right now and all I pick up is the basic cable. I hope that this digital cable will give me a little more channels to watch coming up in a couple of weeks from now. Thanks for the heads up about Jerry Lewis tribute! I appreciate that a lot!

Hey Rob! Yes I'm jumping around boards on you here but while thinking about other classic 70s/80s movies that might have played on USA UP ALL NIGHT (but I'm not sure all of them did), I came up with a few more titles I would love to find again:

The Lonely Lady(83) - Was on VHS? But No official DVD Release. Ray Liotta and the garden hose scene with Pia is a classic. Gotta love the lonely Lady theme song too.

I, the Jury(82) - Was on VHS. No official DVD Release. Armand Assante(sp?) was very good in the title role trying to solve a murder mystery. It's even a bigger mystery why this has not had a DVD release. Lots of Violence and T&A.

Gorp(80) - VHS? DVD? Where is this classic in bad taste 80s comedy? I have been trying to find this one for years and you would think with so many "before they were famous" stars (Dennis Quaid, Fran Drescher, Rosanna Arquette) , that some company would have jumped on it long ago. The last time I saw this was in the early eighties on The Movie Channel. I hate to say it but the guy who was constantly caught kept jerking off in various places had me dying with laughter.

Too Scared to Scream(85) - On VHS. No official DVD Release. Mike Connors(Mannix) searching for a Serial Killer. Cast includes a young Anne Archer a few years before Fatal Attraction got her some notice (though it says it was release in 1985 it was actually completed in 1982). I'm sure this one played on USA several times.

Schizoid (80) - On VHS. No official DVD release. Psychiatrist Klaus Kinski sleeping with his patients while someone else is killing them off. Also stars Christopher (Back to the future) Lloyd in a small part.

Rabbit Test (78) - On VHS. No official DVD release. I only saw a little bit of this but it was so funny in a bad sort of way. Used to pop up on pay cable a lot and maybe on the USA Network.

I'm sure there are more but that would be a good start if I could find any of these movies.

There are so many movies that I am sure that they use to show on cable back in the day that a lot of networks have forgotten about because they want to show the newer movies instead of mixing a variety of movies for us fans to watch. That is cool that you are jumping around like you are.

Some of the movie titles that you have mentioned I have never even heard of before to be honest with you. I think USA UP ALL NIGHT needs to come back to air movies like you are mentioning about. I would love it and I think a lot of other people as well. I have not seen any of the movies that they came out with in the 80's like "They Call Me Bruce and They Still Call Me Bruce in ages!

There is this one movie about this guy who hits his midlife crisis and he was the father of the daughter in Blame It On Rio who Michael Caine slept with but I cannot think of the actors name of the title of the movie. From what I remember of it is that he has a midlife crisis and is fooling around on his wife. I remember seeing this aired on USA Network back in the day and this one film where I cannot think of the actress name but she played in Crush. She played the photographers girlfriend.

That actress also starred in Wasp Woman I believe the remake in the mid 90's. See she plays this model who has mental problems and kills people. I remember watching it several times on USA Network and late at night during the 90's. I miss that kind of programming that USA Network use to have.

I remember "They call me Bruce" but I never saw the sequel. I thought it was a pretty funny movie and it's kind of odd that it took so long for the sequel.

Was the movie you were referring to Middle Age Crazy(1980)? It starred Bruce Dern and Ann-Margret. I never saw that movie although it had a regular run on HBO in the early eighties. But then again the actress in the Wasp Woman remake was Jennifer Rubin and I didn't see her name in the credits for Middle age crazy. I was also thinking of "A Change of Seasons(1980) but that starred Anthony Hopkins and Bo Derek.

Maybe if you remember anything else about the movie, I might be able to help you out.

reply

I remember the sequel coming out several years later after They Call Me Bruce. Yes it was a funny movie to watch. I must say that and agree with you there.

I do not believe that it was Middle Age Crazy at all. It was something else I believe. Yes I remember Jennifer Rubin but it was not her in that one film that I was telling you about. She plays some model that is dating a photographer or something like that and she is a little crazy in the head. I know that she killed some people in the movie.

It has been sometime since I have seen that film that I am talking about. It also might have been when I was in high school when USA Network would show a lot more movies than what they show now in their programming. Thanks for the help. I appreciate that.

I Just recently managed to get a copy of Stewardess School(86) and it's still one of my favorite 80's comedies. It's amazing how the movie and cast looks so TV-friendly, then it manages to be a little raunchy at just the right moments. Seriously you gotta love how Judy Landers calms down that one passenger who goes nuts on the plane and Wendy Jo Sperber is still one of those under appreciated actress who should have gone onto better things but sadly we'll never know (died in 2005). if I can find a few more comedies like this one, I'll be set for a little while.

BTW rob. Have you had any luck finding out the title to the movie you were looking for? Let me know if you have any more clue and maybe I might still be able to help you out.

reply

Yes Stewardess School is a classic comedy from the 80's and I loved it too! I remember watching this on HBO or Cinemax back in the day. It was absolutely great and funny to watch! Yes it is a shame that Wendy Jo Sperber passed away in 2005. She was great playing Tom Hanks sister inlaw in Bachelor Party! That is another 80's classic to watch too! They do not make movies like this anymore at all.

No I did not find the title to that movie. I wished that I could remember more to be honest with you. I appreciate the help! If I can think of anything I will let you know about it.
