Kerouac the person and the writer

We should all be aware and appreciate his literary work. However, what are your opinions when it comes to him as a person? He seemed to dive into his own desires and wants when he impregnated his first wife. Then, he lives out the second half of his career as an obnoxious drunk. A choice he made for himself.
